Baseball Hits The Road For Midweek Action

CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College baseball team hits the road on Tuesday for a non-conference matchup with Clemson at Doug Kingsmore Stadium with first pitch set for 6 pm. The game will be broadcast on ACC Network Extra and on the radio side on Fox Sports 98.3 FM.

About the Blue Hose
• The Presbyterian College baseball team was unable to overcome a three-run ninth from UConn as the guests earned a 4-3 win on Sunday afternoon to complete a three-game sweep of the Blue Hose.
• Senior Jake Rice tossed six one-hit innings while striking out four Huskies on Sunday afternoon.
• Freshman Landon Shaw hit his second home run of the season in game one of Saturday's twin bill.
 
Rankings
Tannor Byrd is currently tied for the conference lead with three home runs. Kyle Merkle and Landon Shaw are both tied for fifth with a pair of homers.
Zacchaeus Rasberry is fourth in the league with five doubles, while Jimmy Marcelli is one behind with four two-baggers.
Austin Paradis currently is third in the league with eight appearances on the season which is also top 50 in the country.
• Rasberry is also third in the league with seven stolen bases.
Kyle Decker is third in the Big South with three sacrifice bunts.
 
Series History
• Clemson leads the all-time series against Presbyterian 8-4 in the Blue Hose D1 era with PC taking the most recent meeting last May in Clemson by the score of 8-7.
• In the win, Jimmy Marcelli hit a two-run homer that gave PC a lead it wouldn't relinquish that night. Clark Dearman grabbed his third win of the season in that win as he tossed 4.1 innings allowing just one earned run.
Garrett Jones had a three-hit game, while Jonathan White and Nick Guimbarda each had a pair of hits in the victory.
 
Scouting Clemson
• Clemson comes into Tuesday night's game with a 12-3 record following a three-game sweep over Boston College at home in its last action.
• Kier Meredith paces the Tiger offense with a .386 average which includes three doubles and a home run. Elijah Henderson sits at .327 with a team-high six doubles.
• On the mound, Sam Weatherly is 2-0 with an 0.79 ERA over four starts as he has allowed two earned runs over 22.2 innings and has 43 strikeouts. Carson Spiers is 3-0 with four saves as he has not allowed an earned run in 13.0 innings. Spiers is 11th in the NCAA with his four saves.
• Clemson sits 38th in the nation with a 2.91 ERA which is good enough four fourth in the ACC. The Tigers have also recorded three shutouts on the year which is 10th in the nation.
 
Home Runs
Tannor Byrd with his pair of home runs last Wednesday against Wofford now has a team-high three on the season.
• It was Byrd's second multi-home run game of his career and the first by a Blue Hose since last May when Jonathan White had two long balls against Charleston Southern.
• It was Presbyterian's first multi-home run game since May 18th when PC hit four in a 15-6 win over Charleston Southern.
• Byrd has three of Presbyterian's conference-high eight as Freshman Kyle Merkle has hit a pair of homers along with Landon Shaw, while Chase Hughes and Hunter Grover both have one as well.

Record Chasing
• Senior Eric Miles needs 19 strikeouts to move into third in the Blue Hose D1 record book. Miles currently sits with 189 career strikeouts.
• With his next victory, Miles becomes the Blue Hose D1 record holder for wins with his 22nd victory.
• Senior Zacchaeus Rasberry needs five stolen bases to move into a tie for first in the Blue Hose record book. Rasberry has 30 career stolen bases.
 
2020 Preseason Honors
Eric Miles and Zacchaeus Rasberry both were selected to Perfect Game's Preseason All-Big South Team.
• Perfect Game selected the Blue Hose fifth in its preseason poll
• The Big South Conference Coaches selected PC fifth in the 2020 preseason coaches poll.
• DI Baseball selected Presbyterian fifth in their preseason poll as well.
 
Blue Hose In The Minors
• Hayden Deal finished the 2019 season with the Florida Firefrogs, the advanced A affiliate of the Atlanta Braves. Deal appeared in 23 games with the Firefrogs while making 22 starts as he went 5-10 with a 3.24 ERA. He recorded 99 strikeouts in 119.1 innings during the season.
 
 Up Next
 • The Blue Hose begin Big South play on Friday night as they travel to Winthrop to open a three-game series with the Eagles at 6 pm. The series continues on Saturday at 3 pm with the series finale set for 1 pm from Rock Hill. All three games will be broadcast on Fox Sports 98.3 FM.
