Blue Hose Head To EKU For Three-Game Series

CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College baseball team hits the road for the second straight weekend as they make the trip to Eastern Kentucky for a three-game series with the Colonels beginning with a doubleheader on Saturday at 12 p.m.. The series wraps up on Sunday at 1 p.m.. from Earle Combs Stadium in Richmond, Ky.

About the Blue Hose
• The Presbyterian College baseball team was unable to overcome an eight-run third inning from the visiting Wofford Terriers as the guests earned an 11-4 victory on Wednesday afternoon at the PC Baseball Complex.
Zacchaeus Rasberry and Sean Klein both connected on their first home runs of the season in the defeat.
Sean Klein and Ryan Ouzts paced the Blue Hose with a pair of hits apiece in Wednesday's contest. Kyle Decker, Chris Veach, Eric Toth, and Zacchaeus Rasberry each added a hit apiece as well. Veach leads the team with hits in all four games on the season. Veach and Toth have also reached base safely in all four games to begin the 2021 season.
 
Series History
• EKU holds a 5-1 all-time record in the DI era against Presbyterian including winning each of the last five all-time meetings.
• Eastern Kentucky opened the 2020 season with a three-game sweep last year over PC.
• In the series, Landon Shaw hit .333 with his first colleigate home run and a team-high four runs driven in.
Eric Miles recorded eight strikeouts in the opening day matchup with Eastern Kentucky.
 
Scouting Eastern Kentucky
• Eastern Kentucky enters with a 1-3 record after taking one last weekend from #15 Georgia Tech and a tight defeat against #4 Louisville in its most recent action.
• The Colonels are led offensively by Caleb Upshaw who's hitting .333 on the young season with two doubles and three runs driven in. Kendal Ewell checks in with a .286 average which includes two doubles and a triple.
• On the mound, Will Brian has tossed 3.0 scoreless frames and has recorded a save as well with three strikeouts. Louis Davenport has EKU's best ERA amongst starters with a 3.00 earned run average following his start last weekend.
 
Strong Opening Statements at the Plate
Ryan Ouzts continues to swing a hot bat to begin his Blue Hose career as he leads the team with a .357 average which includes a pair of doubles.
Eric Toth checks into the weekend with a .313 average which includes a double and home run.
Sean Klein sits at .267 as he connected on his first Presbyterian home run on Wednesday in a defeat against Wofford. Chris Veach enters Saturday's doubleheader with a .250 average and 4.0 innings on the bump without allowing an earned run.
 
Scouting The 2021 Season
• The Blue Hose enter of one the most unique seasons to date in the program's history dating back to 1988 in the modern era. PC is set to embark on a 50 game season which includes 40 games in the Big South along with 10 non-conference matchups.
• On the non-conference side, Presbyterian travels to Auburn (3 games) and Eastern Kentucky (3 games). The Blue Hose also have midweek home-and-home matchups with Wofford and Davidson as well.
• The Blue Hose are set to host three teams in home-and-home conference series this season. PC will face UNC Asheville (Mar.5-6 (H) & Apr. 1-2(A)), Longwood (Mar. 12-13(H) & Apr. 16-17(A)) and Radford (Mar. 19-20 (A) & Apr. 9-10(H)) six times apiece.
• Presbyterian will face two conference teams in five games during the 2021 season, including a home or road weekend series followed by a home-and-home midweek contest. The Blue Hose will host Charleston Southern on March 16 and March 26-27 before traveling to Charleston on May 11. PC will travel to USC Upstate on March 23 and play a weekend series in Spartanburg on April 30-May 1. The Blue Hose and Spartans are slated to meet in Clinton on April 20.
• PC will play four teams in a three-game series either at home or on the road. Campbell will visit Presbyterian for a weekend set on April 23-24, while also hosting Gardner-Webb on May 7-8. 
 
Record Chasing
• Senior Eric Miles needs 17 strikeouts to move into third in the Blue Hose D1 record book. Miles currently sits with 195 career strikeouts.
• With his next victory, Miles becomes the Blue Hose D1 record holder for wins with his 22nd victory.
• Senior Zacchaeus Rasberry needs six stolen bases to move into first in the Blue Hose D1 record book. Rasberry has 30 career stolen bases.
• Rasberry's next triple will move him into a tie for fifth in D1 history with his fifth career triple as a Blue Hose.

 Up Next
 • The Blue Hose return home to open conference play beginning on Friday, March 5 against UNC Asheville with first pitch slated for 2 p.m.. against the Bulldogs. The two teams will wrap up the series against UNC Asheville on Saturday with a doubleheader set for a 10:30 a.m. first pitch at the PC Baseball Complex.
