Baseball Opens Three-Game Set with Campbell on Friday

CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College baseball team returns to the diamond on Friday to begin a three-game series with Campbell at 3 p.m. from the PC Baseball Complex. The Blue Hose and Camels are then slated to play a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 11 a.m. Prior to first pitch of Saturday's twin bill, the Blue Hose will honor the 2021 senior class featuring 10 student-athletes.

About the Blue Hose
• The Presbyterian College baseball team was unable to overcome an eight-run first inning from visiting USC Upstate as the Spartans recorded an 11-8 victory on Tuesday afternoon at the PC Baseball Complex.
• Presbyterian recorded home runs on Tuesday from Zacchaeus Rasberry, Sean Klein, and Jeremiah Boyd.
• Rasberry paced the Blue Hose offense with three hits including his third home run of the spring coming in the first inning. He matched a career-high with the seventh three-hit game of his Presbyterian career.
Kyle Benson pitched a season-high 3.0 scoreless innings of relief marking his longest outing as a Blue Hose not allowing a run.
 
Series History
• Campbell has taken 19 of the prior 21 meetings from the Blue Hose in PC's DI era dating back to 2008. The Camels earned a three-game sweep of the Blue Hose in 2019 at Buies Creek.
• Campbell has taken the last seven meetings from the Blue Hose.
 
Scouting Campbell
• Campbell comes into the series opener on Friday with a 19-11 record following a 16-8 midweek victory over High Point on Tuesday.
• Zach Neto leads the Camel offense with a .409 average including 10 doubles and five home runs. Spencer Packard sits at .382 with 11 doubles and six home runs with 38 runs driven in.
• Matthew Christian has a team-high seven home runs with a team best 39 RBIs.
• Kevin Westlake sits at 1-0 in nine appearances with a 0.56 ERA as he has allowed just one earned run in 16.0 innings. Logan Heintzman leads the Camels with four wins.
• The Camels sit atop the league in numerous statistical categories including batting average (.304), doubles (71), home runs (33), on base percentage (.415), runs (247), sac flies (22), slugging percentage (.487) and stolen bases (59).
 
Wyandt Named to Buster Posey Watch List
• Presbyterian College catcher Jake Wyandt has been named to the Buster Posey National Collegiate Catcher of the Year Watch List, as the Greater Wichita Area Sports Commission announced.
• Wyandt is fourth on the team in hitting with a .278 average this season over 18 games played. He leads the team with a .409 on-base percentage while sitting second on the team at a .500 slugging percentage.
• Wyandt is one of four Blue Hose this spring with multiple home runs as he has connected on a pair of long balls. He's tied for the team lead with three stolen bases. Wyandt has a .992 fielding percentage this spring as he has only one error in his 18 games played.
• Behind the plate, he has thrown on six would-be base stealers and picked off one runner.
• The list spotlights 80 catchers including a pair from the Big South Conference. The award, formerly known as the Johnny Bench Award, was created in 2000 to honor college baseball's top catcher in the NCAA Division I ranks.
 
Veach Earns Olerud Watch List Honor
• Presbyterian College infielder & pitcher Chris Veach has been named to the 10th annual John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Year Award watch list, as announced by the College Baseball Foundation on Tuesday.
• The deep pool of talent resulting from several veteran players returning for an extra season granted by the NCAA in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, plus the influx of new talent from the last two seasons, has created a unique pool of 17 top candidates for the 2021 Olerud watch list.
• The list also includes teammates from two Power 5 schools, three players who have already been honored with the Olerud Player of the Week award and four players who were on the watch list for the 2019 award.
• The Chapin, S.C. native is continuing to lead the Blue Hose offensive attack with a conference leading .348 average thru 16 games. He's had a base hit in 14 of 16 games he's played in this spring.
• Veach has already earned a pair of Big South Freshman of the Week honors this spring as well.
 
Strong Opening Statements At The Plate
Chris Veach currently paces the Blue Hose offense with a .344 average to begin the 2021 season as he has hits in 18 of his first 21 collegiate games he's played in and 31 total during that stretch. 
• Freshman Ryan Ouzts sits in third on the team currently with a .286 average thru his first 21 games. Ouzts is third on the team totaling four doubles.
• JUCO Transfer Eric Toth has a .287 average so far in 2021 as he is the team leader with five long balls. He earned his second save of the season pitching the 10th inning on Saturday in a 10-9 game one win over Longwood. He tossed a season-high 5.2 innings in relief during PC's 14-inning victory over UNC Asheville on April 6.
Sean Klein, another JUCO transfer currently has five doubles and three home runs with 12 runs driven in thru 22 contests.
 
Record Chasing
• Senior Eric Miles needs three strikeouts to move into second in the Blue Hose D1 record book. Miles currently sits with 217 career strikeouts.
• Miles needs 11.2 innings pitched to past Brian Kehner for fourth in the DI record book for innings in his Blue Hose career
• Senior Zacchaeus Rasberry needs four stolen bases to move into first in the Blue Hose D1 record book. Rasberry has 32 career stolen bases.
• Rasberry's next triple will move him into a tie for fourth in D1 history with his sixth career triple as a Blue Hose.
