Brasseur & Stewart Earn SoCon Academic Honors

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Jacob Brasseur and Reid Stewart of the Presbyterian College men's wrestling team have been named to the 2020-21 Academic All-Southern Conference Team as announced by the league office on Wednesday.

"Academic excellence is a priority and a hallmark of the Southern Conference," SoCon Commissioner Jim Schaus said. "Congratulations to the significant number of student-athletes that are being recognized. Winning on the athletic field is indeed special. But winning in the classroom can last a lifetime."

A total of 1,022 Southern Conference student-athletes were honored by the league which is the second-most for an academic year since the SoCon began administering the award in 2002-03. Brasseur and Stewart were two of 36 wrestlers honored by the Southern Conference which spans across 10 league institutions.

This is the first year the SoCon has administered fall and spring sports together, which came as a result of the majority of competition taking place in the spring.

Brasseur earned three victories during the 2021 season which included a pair of wins in SoCon action against The Citadel and Davidson. The Lexington, S.C. native is a history major with a minor in secondary education and he carries a 3.74 GPA.

The Lynchburg, Va. native, Stewart earned three victories in the 2021 season for PC which included a pair of Southern Conference wins via decision. He picked up those aforementioned wins over Bellarmine and Davidson while also grabbing a victory against Emmanuel. Stewart is a political science major with a 3.30 GPA.

To be eligible for the academic all-conference team, student-athletes must carry at least a 3.3 cumulative grade point average at the conclusion of the semester of competition and were required to compete in at least one-half of their teams' competitions. In addition, the student-athletes must have successfully completed at least three semesters at their institutions, making true freshmen and first-year transfers ineligible for inclusion.
