Gallegos Leads Charge at NWCA Championships

LOUISVILLE, KY – The Presbyterian College women's wrestling team competed this past Thursday and Friday at the Mat Mayhem, part of the NWCA Championships. PC sent four wrestlers as part of the tournament: Jaslynn Gallegos, Samantha Miller, Isabella Badon, and Gabriella Shevlin.

Gallegos went 5-0 during the tournament at 116 lbs. Her first win came by forfeit, but in her first action she scored a pin fall victory in 1:20 of the 1st period over North Central College. In Presbyterian's third match she was in a tough battle, but was able to withstand her opponent and pull out a 10-8 decision win. Gallegos earned another pin fall victory, this time at 1:48, and finished her session with a 10-0 technical fall over Wisconsin Stevens.

Miller, like Gallegos, won her first match by forfeit at 101 lbs. She was able to win by pin fall in round two, but just couldn't get over the hump in match three, falling to McKendree by a 4-2 decision. Miller ended the tournament with a pair of wins, first with a pin fall at 109 lbs. and she won her final match due to an injury to the Wisconsin Stevens' wrestler.

Badon and Shevlin both competed at the 155 and 170 lb. weight class, swapping places throughout the tournament. Neither were able to score wins for the Blue Hose, but it wasn't because of a lack of trying. Badon and Shevlin had to face some of the toughest wrestlers in all of Division I and they were able to hold their own at times.
