High Expectations Abound as Women’s Wrestling Unveils 2022-23 Slate

CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College women's wrestling squad has revealed their lofty regular season schedule for the 2022-23 campaign, announced by program director Mark Cody and Head Coach Zach Sheaffer on Tuesday morning. Returning a hefty amount of significant contributors from arguably the school's most successful season a year ago, the Blue Hose bring with them a palpable sense of excitement into a schedule that features 15 events beginning in early November.

"We were able to snag one of the best recruiting classes in the country this past offseason, which has us very much looking forward to this winter and beyond after the success our players had in 2021-22", exclaimed coach Sheaffer while commenting on PC's upcoming journey. "We can't wait to see this team, who's already enjoyed some very high marks, climb even higher this year. We believe this has the potential to be a remarkable year for the program, and our competitors are excited to get it started."

As the majority of the team's competitions will take place on the road, the Blue Hose will stray away from Clinton for all four dates throughout the month of November, starting with the Princeton Open on Nov. 6 in New Jersey. The following weekend, Presbyterian heads to Marietta, Ga. for back-to-back events on the 12th and 13th hosted by Life University, before closing out the month with a head-to-head battle against Limestone in Gaffney on Nov. 20.

PC will enact their 2022-23 home debut on Dec. 4 in a nonconference affair with Mount Olive at 4:00 from the Templeton Center, embarking on a two-week hiatus before the Wasp Open in Emory, Va. on Dec. 18. The final date on the calendar year serves to be a big one, as the Blue Hose will travel to Chicago on Dec. 30 for the vaunted Midlands Championships, an event that was canceled last time out.

Five contests encompass the month of January for the blue and white, who will open the new year in Louisville, Ky. on the 6th for the NWCA National Duals that will extend into the following afternoon. Two head-to-head matchups against Brewton-Parker and Ferrum will occur seven days apart in the middle of the month, with the latter on the 20th serving as the team's Senior Day encounter at home.

Presbyterian will enter the final stretch of the regular season with back-to-back trips to Emmanuel in the Peach State on Jan. 21st and 27th, firstly for a multi-team tournament before returning for a one-on-one versus the Lions. The Blue Hose close their campaign on Feb. 5 with a second trip to Limestone in another multi-team tourney hosted by the Saints.

Bristol, Tenn. will serve as the location for the NCWWC Southeast Regional Championships, an event where the Blue Hose placed 2nd last season behind eight different players ranking inside the top five across their respective weight class. After competing at SE Regionals on Feb. 17, Presbyterian will wrap up their spring slate on March 3rd with the yearly two-day National Championship tournament in Coralville, Iowa.

Three different competitors earned All-America status at the same event earlier this year, leading to a bundle of excitement and optimism for what's shaping up to be an intriguing encore season to the program's most noteworthy period of its young existence.
