Baseball Set to Face Georgia Tech on Wednesday

CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College Baseball team wraps up its four-game season-opening road swing on Wednesday as the Blue Hose head to Atlanta to face Georgia Tech at 4 p.m… The game will be played at Russ Chandler Stadium and will be broadcast on ACC Network Extra.

About the Blue Hose
• The Presbyterian College baseball team used a pair of 11th inning RBI singles to propel them to a 5-3 victory on Sunday afternoon at Harmon Stadium. Chase Hughes and Jack Gorman had the RBI base hits and Luke Matthews tossed 3.2 scoreless innings to earn the series win.
• North Florida scored four in the seventh and tacked on one in the eighth to earn the 8-5 victory on Saturday over the Presbyterian College baseball team at Harmon Stadium. Chase Hughes connected on his second homer in as many games and Chris Veach had a pair of runs knocked in as well.
• Behind a four-run fifth inning, the Presbyterian College baseball team opened the 2022 season with an 8-7 victory over North Florida on Friday night at Harmon Stadium. Senior Kyle Decker led the Blue Hose offense with three hits.
 
Hughes Early Season Homers
• Junior Chase Hughes started the season fast with homers in back-to-back games in Jacksonville last week.
• Hughes was one of only two players in the conference to connect on multiple homers in the opening weekend.
 
Matthews Slamming the Door
• Senior Luke Matthews tossed six scoreless frames over the weekend earning his first two collegiate victories against the Ospreys.
• Matthews tossed 2.1 scoreless innings in relief on Friday as he earned his first collegiate victory. Matthews totaled a career-high three strikeouts.
• He improved on Friday's performance with a career-high 3.2 scoreless innings scattering three hits in recording his second win of the year.

2022 Preseason Honors
• Senior Eric Toth and sophomore Charlie McDaniel were both selected to the Preseason All-Conference team as selected by Perfect game.
• PC was tabbed fourth in the preseason conference poll as voted on by the league coaches.

Series History
• Wednesday's contest marks the seventh time in program history that the Blue Hose will face Georgia Tech with the Yellow Jackets taking the previous six meetings.
• The last meetings occured in May of 2015 in Atlanta where Georgia Tech defeated PC in a three-game weekend set.

Scouting Georgia Tech
• Georgia Tech earned a three-game sweep in its opening action against Wright State last weekend. The Yellow Jackets face Georgia Southern on Tuesday before hosting PC on Wednesday afternoon.
• Andrew Jenkins led Georgia Tech going 6-for-9 in the Wright State series, while Drew Compton hit .600 with a pair of home runs.
• The Yellow Jackets had six players hit over .300 in the series led by Jenkins and Compton as the team hit .365 for the series with six homers and 31 runs knocked in.
• On the mound, Joseph Mannelly and Josiah Siegl led the Yellow Jackets tossing three scoreless frames and each earning a win in relief. Mannelly totaled six strikeouts and Siegel had three strikeouts in his win.
• As a team, Georgia Tech is ranked in five different polls with the highest of those showing the Yellow Jackets in seventh as of Monday's rankings.
• Georgia Tech was picked to win the Coastal Division in the ACC Preseason Poll.
• The Yellow Jackets were one of the teams that joined PC in Nashville during last season's regional but the Blue Hose and Yellow Jackets did not face each other during the regional.
• GT is led by Danny Hall who is in his 29th season in Atlanta and has amassed over 1,300 wins in his coaching career which ranks second among active coaches.
 
Scouting the 2022 Season

• The Blue Hose enter the 2022 season coming off of the program's first Big South Championship earned last May after going a perfect 3-0 in the tournament in Fayetteville.
• The 2022 slate features six contests against foes from the ACC and SEC which includes four contests against 2021 NCAA tournament teams.
• The 2022 slate begins with a trip to Jacksonville to face North Florida in a three-game series from February 18-20. The Blue Hose then makes the short trip to Atlanta to battle Georgia Tech on February 22.PC opens its home schedule beginning on February 25 with a doubleheader against Boston College and George Mason. The weekend wraps up with matchups on the 26th and 27th against Manhattan.
• The Blue Hose season-high nine-game homestand continues with a visit from the College of Charleston (March 1) before hosting Bellarmine (March 4-6) and wrapping up the home stretch on March 9 against Western Carolina. Before opening conference play, PC travels to Georgia State for a three-game set with the Panthers March 11-13 and heads to the Queen City on March 15 to face Charlotte.
• PC opens the conference slate with a visit from USC Upstate for a three-game set from March 18-20. The Blue Hose trek to Durham on March 23rd for a midweek battle with Duke before traveling to Campbell for a three-game set with the Camels on March 25-27. The Blue & Garnet wraps up the month of March with a trip to face South Carolina on March 29.
• Presbyterian opens the month of April with a three-game set hosting UNC Asheville (April 1-3). They hit the road quickly for four straight games following the contest with Asheville beginning on April 5 at College of Charleston before a three-game set with Morehead State (April 9-10). The Blue Hose are set for a doubleheader on the ninth with the Eagles before a single-game on the 10th.
• PC makes a quick stop at home on April 12 for a matchup with Georgia Southern before heading to Longwood on Easter weekend for a Thursday-Saturday slate. The Blue Hose return home to face Wofford (April 20) before hosting Winthrop in a three-game slate April 22-24. Presbyterian heads on the road on April 26-27 for back-to-back matchups at Clemson before heading to Western Carolina.
• PC takes a step out of conference at home to close out April and open May against James Madison with a twin bill on April 30 and a single game on May 1. In May, PC will spend a majority of the time away from Clinton with road series against Charleston Southern (May 6-8) and Gardner-Webb (May 13-15). PC also has midweeks with Wofford (May 11) and Georgia (May 17) on tap.

• The Blue Hose open their home slate on Friday afternoon with a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. against Boston College before facing George Mason at 4:30 p.m… PC also is set to face Manhattan over the weekend on Saturday at 1 p.m. and Sunday at noon.
