Baseball Hosts Charleston on Tuesday Afternoon

CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College Baseball team continues it's season-opening homestand on Tuesday with a visit from the College of Charleston. First pitch is set for 4 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon.

About the Blue Hose
• The Presbyterian College baseball team bounced back in a big way on Saturday recording a pair of wins over Manhattan at the PC Baseball Complex. The Blue Hose earned the 5-1 win in game one before a 4-2 victory in seven innings of game two to complete the sweep.      
• The Presbyterian College baseball team opened its home slate on Friday with a pair of tight defeats coming against Boston College by the score of 7-6 and to George Mason by the count of 4-2 at the PC Baseball Complex.
 
Series History
• College of Charleston has won the only prior meeting in the Blue Hose DI era between the two teams. The Cougars defeated the Blue Hose 9-5 on May 17, 2011 in Charleston.
 
Dearman Earns Big South Relief Pitcher of the Week Honors
• Following his first collegiate save on Saturday, Presbyterian College baseball senior left-handed pitcher Clark Dearman (Milton, Ga.) has been named the Big South Relief Pitcher of the Week for games played Feb. 21-Feb. 27, as announced by the league office on Monday.
• Dearman began the week with 1.1 scoreless frames in the Blue Hose midweek contest against Georgia Tech. He recorded a pair of strikeouts in the outing against the Yellow Jackets allowing a hit and a walk.
• The Milton, Ga. native returned to the hill on Saturday afternoon and pitched the final two innings of the Blue Hose 5-1 game one victory against Manhattan to earn his first collegiate save.  He recorded three punchouts in the two innings against the Jaspers.
• Dearman leads the team with four appearances as he has allowed two earned runs in 5.1 innings while totaling eight strikeouts this season.
 
Matthews Slamming the Door
• Senior Luke Matthews tossed six scoreless frames over the weekend earning his first two collegiate victories against the Ospreys in the Blue Hose season opening series win against UNF.
• Matthews tossed 2.1 scoreless innings in relief on Friday as he earned his first collegiate victory. Matthews totaled a career-high three strikeouts.
• He improved on Friday's performance with a career-high 3.2 scoreless innings scattering three hits in recording his second win of the year.
 
Blue Hose Long Ball
• The Blue Hose have totaled five home runs in the opening eight games this season off the bats of four different players.
• Senior Eric Toth connected on his first of the year over the weekend against Manhattan.
• Sophomore Jack Gorman and senior Sean Klein each connected on homers on Wednesday afternoon in Atlanta.
•Junior Chase Hughes started the season fast with homers in back-to-back games in Jacksonville last week.
 
2022 Preseason Honors
• Senior Eric Toth and sophomore Charlie McDaniel were both selected to the Preseason All-Conference team as selected by Perfect game.
• PC was tabbed fourth in the preseason conference poll as voted on by the league coaches.
 
Scouting College of Charleston
• College of Charleston comes into Tuesday's contest with a 6-1 mark after a three-game sweep of Siena over the weeekend.
• JT Marr leads the Cougars offense with a .481 average as Tyler Sorrentino checks in with a .393 average thru C-of-C's first seven games this season.
• Sorrentino was named the CAA Rookie of the Week following a .429 (6-for-14) performance vs Siena. He had two double, four RBI and a pair of stolen bases.
• Cam Dean leads the way with seven runs knocked in this season. Trotter Harlan has seven stolen bases to lead the way.
• William Privette leads the Cougars on the mound with seven shutout innings as he's 1-0 with 10 strikeouts and a walk this season. Daniel Brooks is the top starting arm allowing two earned runs in 11 innings with a team-high 17 strikeouts.
