GAFFNEY, S.C. – The Presbyterian College women's wrestling team finished their regular season on Sunday afternoon at the Limestone Open where
Jaslynn Gallegos and
Samantha Miller took home 1
st place in their respective weight classes. Gallegos went undefeated at 3-0 and Miller also undefeated at 2-0.
Despite having three matches on the day, Gallegos was not on the mat for very long. Her first victory came just 19 seconds into the first period as she won by pin fall. Her second match was for a chance to compete in the 1
st place match as she defeated host Limestone by a 10-0 technical fall in the first period. The 1
st place match only lasted 26 seconds as Gallegos was able to pin her opponent and was crowned the winner of the 116lb weight division.
Samantha Miller once again earned 1
st place at the 101lb weight class although unconventionally she only wrestled twice, and it was against the same opponent. Miller faced off against Ashly Gomez of King University as those two had a double-date to see who would come out on top for the 101lb title. Miller kept her momentum riding from last time as she defeated Gomez the first time by a 10-0 technical fall, and the second time by pin 1:42 into the match.
Isabella Badon and CG Bertrand both picked up 3
rd place finishes. Badon fell in her first two matches but came back to win the 3
rd place match by a 6-2 decision over Emmanuel at the 155lb weight class. Bertrand, at 123lbs, went 3-1 during the tournament with her only loss coming to a very talented Melanie Mendoza of King University. Bertrand had a quick first match pinning her opponent in just under a minute. She then won a 10-0 technical fall in the first period before pinning Caroline Schmitt of Limestone in the 3
rd place match.
Cassandra Lopez came in 4tf place at the 109lb weight division. A strong division throughout the entire country, Lopez earned a first-round bye before falling in the semifinals. She bounced back with a first period pin just before the period ended in the consolation round but was unable to pick up 3
rd place as she was beaten by an 8-0 decision.
Sierra Marie Miller was the last to compete for the Blue Hose on Sunday, wrestling at the 130lb weight class. The freshman received a bye and then scored a quick pin fall victory over Emory and Henry. Unfortunately for Miller, her run came to an end as double elimination caught up to her as she lost twice to be eliminated from the tournament.
