Adidas / Game One Student-Athlete of the Week: Henlee Haynes

CLINTON, S.C. – Wasting no time in making a big impression during her blue and garnet debut, true freshman Henlee Haynes of the Presbyterian College women's wrestling team has been named the Adidas / Game One PC Student-Athlete of the Week.

A focal point of the program's predominantly young roster, Haynes battled her way to a second-place standing at the season-starting Princeton Open in New Jersey on Sunday afternoon. She charged out of the gates in class 170 by taking a W in three consecutive bouts, PC's highest medal-winner of the event out of eight entries.

Hailing from Panama City, Florida, Haynes registered two pins and a technical fall on her path to the silver prize, winning her first collegiate match over Marymount's Alexandra Kotliarov in a lightning-quick nine seconds.

She'd follow that up with a 10-0 tech in the quarterfinal round against Ursinus' Gianna Perez in barely a minute, advancing to the 170-lb. championship match by knocking off Jessica Johnson (Lock Haven) in a 2:01 pin.

The Blue Hose earned a # 13 ranking in the preseason NWCA rankings after a ninth-place national finish last spring, backing up that number with a well-rounded effort in Princeton as Haynes led the way.

The 2023-24 campaign is only just beginning for head coach Brian Vutianitis' club – who captured 22 victories overall on Sunday – headed to a four-way with major early-season stakes on November 12 in Iowa City.

Presbyterian is set to face-off with three other nationally-ranked opponents back-to-back-to-back in five days, taking on the Iowa Hawkeyes as well as Lindenwood and Sacred Heart at a neutral venue.

All four schools competing are within the nation's top 15, giving PC a taste of what's to come across a dual-heavy slate this year.

The Presbyterian College athletic department partnered with Game One on a multi-year apparel agreement last November as an official team dealer for Adidas. The partnership extended the university's alliance with Adidas which began in 2015 to outfit the Blue Hose athletic programs.

Game One is among the largest and fastest-growing sports equipment and apparel suppliers in the country, serving a loyal customer base of 13,000 schools and organizations in 38 states.
