Baseball Continues League Play at Asheville on Friday

CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College baseball team continues Big South play on Friday with the opener of a three-game series at UNC Asheville with first pitch set for 5 p.m. from Greenwood Field. The second game is set for a 3 p.m. first pitch on Saturday before the finale at 1 p.m. on Sunday from Asheville. All three games are set to be broadcast on ESPN+.

About the Blue Hose
• The Blue Hose return to Big South play beginning on Friday with a three-game series at UNC Asheville. PC comes into the weekend off of a 16-3 setback against Wofford on Wednesday as the Bulldogs dropped a 5-0 decision to nationally ranked Tennessee.
 
Scouting the Bulldogs
• UNC Asheville comes into the weekend with a 15-9 record and is 2-4 in league play. The Bulldogs grabbed two-of-three against Longwood last weekend after being swept opening weekend by CSU. Robbie Burnett leads the Bulldogs with a .372 average that includes six doubles, three triples and six homers with 25 runs knocked in. Kohl Abrams is at .369 with four doubles and Dylan Bacot leads the Bulldogs with 12 doubles a .364 average. Corbin Lanowitz is at .352 entering the weekend. Blake Little has three saves out of the Bulldogs pen with four earned allowed in 15.2 innings this season. Ryan Douglas sits at 4-0 in six starts with 41 strikeouts compared to just 16 walks.
 
 
Head to Head vs UNC Asheville
• PC holds a 29-17 all-time lead over UNC Asheville in the DI era of the Blue Hose. Presbyterian has won four of the last six meetings over Asheville inclduing taking two of three at home a season ago for PC.
Brody Fahr paced the Blue Hose last season against Asheville with a .462 average (6-of-13) while Jay Wetherington finished at .417 (5-of-12) with a homer and four RBIs. Logan Ymker tossed a pair of outings in the series with six strikeouts over four shutout frames.
 
Blue Hose in the Ranks
Jack Gorman enters the weekend tied for fourth in the league with eight doubles.
Kyle Decker is tied for seventh in the league with nine steals. Decker is tied for third in league games with four steals as the fifth-year senior has gone 4-for-5.
Joel Dragoo and Brody Fahr are both tied for sixth in walks drawn with 18 apiece.
Tanner Smith is atop the league in saves with five. Luke Gibson is fourth in the league with a pair of saves.
Charlie McDaniel is fourth in the Big South with a 5.6 strikeout-to-walk ratio. McDaniel is third in the conference with 1.41 walks allowed per nine innings.
Colbey Klepper is third in the league and 13th in the nation in appearances with 14 on the season.
 
Smith Goes Back-to-Back with Big South Relief Pitcher of the Week Honors
• Following two Big South saves in the Blue Hose series win over Charleston Southern, Presbyterian College baseball senior Tanner Smith (Laurens, S.C.) has been Big South Relief Pitcher of the Week for the second straight week for games played March 20-26, as announced by the league office on Monday.
• Smith opened the week with three strikeouts over 1.1 scoreless frames at home against Davidson. He opened the outing with a walk before recording three strikeouts over the next five batters to earn the scoreless outing.
• He carried his momentum into Friday's outing with a scoreless inning totaling two strikeouts and facing one over the minimum in the ninth of the Blue Hose 6-3 win over CSU to earn his fourth save. He needed just 16 pitches to get out of the inning against the Bucs.
• He bounced back on Saturday he needed just 12 pitches and worked around a leadoff hit by pitch to record his second save in as many games as PC clinched the series with a 2-1 victory. Smith tallied a strikeout in the inning of work on Saturday.
• Smith has not allowed an earned run over his last 8.1 innings as the senior has totaled 12 strikeouts and allowed three hits in that stretch. He continues to lead the Blue Hose bullpen with a minuscule 1.12 ERA over his 16 innings of work this season. He is currently tied for 15th in the nation with his five saves
• He becomes the first Blue Hose player to earn back-to-back Big South Relief Pitcher of the Week honors since last April 4 & 11 when Logan Ymker earned two straight honors.his third save of the season and give PC the 7-6 league opening win.
 
Blue Hose Tally Back-to-Back Series Wins
• The Presbyterian College baseball team opened its home Big South slate on Friday with a decisive 6-3 victory over Charleston Southern at the PC Baseball Complex. Brody Fahr and Chase Hughes each tallied a triple to help propel the PC offense past the Bucs. 
•  Behind 6.2 shutout innings from three Blue Hose relievers, the Presbyterian College baseball team defeated Charleston Southern 2-1 on Saturday afternoon at the PC Baseball Complex. Freshman Kyle Mueller along with seniors Colbey Klepper and Tanner Smith tossed the final 6.2 innings with only allowing three hits and no runs to help PC secure the series victory.
• Behind a late offensive performance on Sunday, Charleston Southern defeated the Presbyterian College baseball team 10-0 at the PC Baseball Complex in the series finale against the Bucs.
