PC Goes to Bellarmine, Hosts Queens Within Three-Day Period

CLINTON, S.C. – Fresh off their most dominant performance of the 2023-24 season at the tail end of the weekend, the Presbyterian College men's wrestling squad hopes to continue the momentum established from a 38-point whipping over Truett McConnell into Friday's Southern Conference opener that will then lean into their second home feature of the year.

The SoCon slate will officially begin tomorrow evening when the Blue Hose visit a loaded Bellarmine opponent for a 7:00 opening bout, leading to a non-league encounter 48 hours later against the Royals of Queens (3:00 PM from Templeton Gymnasium).

It's all duals from this point forward for head coach Mark Cody's roster, looking to end the Knights' unblemished 10-match winning streak on Friday before their last non-conference tussle takes place in their own backyard on the 21st.

PC matched its program-high for most points in a sole matchup on Sunday when they took down TMU, winning six straight bouts to blow things open and equal the 44-point record that was first enacted back in 2019 (the school's inaugural team).

SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS

- One of the hottest teams in the nation approaching the start of SoCon play, Bellarmine will welcome the Blue Hose to Louisville with 10 victories and zero losses to their name while not being particularly challenged on the final stat sheet to this point.

- The Knights have eviscerated all who've stood in their path, producing at minimum 40 points in nine separate contests while allowing double digits on the other side just once.

- Bellarmine's last competition dates came near the start of the month where they impressively won six outings in only two days, starting that sequence with consecutive W's of 57-0 over both Colorado State and Washington State. Also defeating the likes of UCF and Liberty, the Knights emerged as the victors in those six clashes by a combined margin of 314-30.

- As an additional nugget to how assertive Bellarmine has been this season, only one of their duals has taken place from their home base. This makes Friday's affair with Presbyterian their first home match since all the way back on November 10.

- It hasn't been quite that same overpowering story for Queens at this stage, recently relieving head coach Rob Tate of his duties following a 2-11 start. The Royals have tasted defeat in each of their last seven appearances while being kept to less-than-10 points in all of those outings.

- Coincidentally, Queens has also crossed paths with Bellarmine (a 47-3 manhandling on December 3), falling to three other SoCon universities during the seven-match losing skid (Chattanooga by 41, The Citadel by 40, and most recently VMI by 39).

LAST TIME OUT

- Getting back on track in commanding fashion, coach Cody's crew raced past Truett McConnell on Sunday as they compiled a couple of pins and technical falls alongside a 184-pound major decision for good measure.

- Scoring 32 straight points after taking a 133-lb. setback, Presbyterian rolled to their second dual victory of the campaign in what also happened to be the first Templeton showing of the year. PC also achieved a 29-21 triumph over Sacred Heart at a neutral venue in New York just before Thanksgiving.
