Blue Hose Start New Season at Home, Taking on Sacred Heart

CLINTON, S.C. – For the first time in its six seasons of existence, the Presbyterian College men's wrestling program will open up a new campaign from their own backyard, kicking off the 2024-25 slate this Sunday versus Sacred Heart inside Templeton Gymnasium.

The action will begin at approximately 1:00 PM, with the Blue Hose and head coach Mark Cody looking for a win over the Pioneers in consecutive seasons.

PC's schedule is comprised of 14 duals from now through March, welcoming SHU after defeating them at a neutral venue 12 months ago.

Coach Cody returns a large chunk of his 25-man roster, a vastly-experienced lineup that earned two pins and two technical falls when they last locked horns with Sacred Heart in November '23.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENT

- The Pioneers will hope to turn the page from a less-than-stellar season last spring, starting 0-8 and finishing with a 3-12 mark.

- SHU took an eight-point defeat at Presby's hands for the third L in that streak of eight in a row, finally entering the win column by besting Queens in January 40-9.

- Sacred Heart's other two victories came over Bloomsburg (31-11) and Morgan State (29-13), concluding the campaign by coming in 17th place at the Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association (EIWA) Tournament.

LAST SEASON RECAP

- Presbyterian ended the spring with their own three-win slate, with two of those W's over Truett McConnell and Queens at Templeton.

- The triumph against SHU came in Albany at a round-robin event dubbed the "Arm Bar at the Armory". PC battled the Pioneers to seven lead changes in that dual, with Presby winning three of the last four matches.

- Trenton Dominguez, Ryan Luna, Eli Holiday, Reed Douglass, Caleb Roe, and Nathan Carnes all had their hands raised when defeating Sacred Heart.

- Trailing by two at the midway portion of the match, Holiday grabbed a pivotal pin in four minutes and 33 seconds (class 157) to jolt PC in front by four.

- The Pioneers answered with their own fall in 165, although Douglass was able to rebound with an 18-3 tech in the 174-lb. bout.

- Roe extended the advantage to eight points with another TF (this one by an 18-2 margin), going on to place 4th at the SoCon Championships three months later.

- Carnes stepped up to the mat with his team's lead trimmed down to a deuce, preserving the victory with a 2:18 fall for the first of his team-high 11 wins on the season.
