Volleyball Maxes Out CSC All-District Awards

CLINTON, S.C. – For the second consecutive year, the Presbyterian College volleyball team named four student-athletes to the 2024 College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District team, the maximum number of players that a program can honor.
 
Anna Baranski, Aliza Hart, Elyse Hutchinson, and Julia Yurkovich all met the strenuous criteria that is required to be considered for the prestigious list.
 
Acquirements for a spot on the CSC Academic All-District team is as follows:
 
- The student-athlete must have maintained at least a 3.5 grade-point average on the traditional 4.0 scale for the entire season.
- The student-athlete must have participated in at least 90 percent of the team's matches (regular season and postseason).
- True freshmen are ineligible for CSC Academic All-District recognition.
 
Under second year head coach Steve Benson, the Blue Hose earned a spot in the Big South Conference Tournament for back-to-back seasons for the first time since 2014.
 
As the sixth seed in the 2024 conference tournament, PC upset the third seed USC Upstate in a five-set thriller, marking the program's first league tournament victory since 2019.

Anna Baranski | Jr. | Setter | Channahon, IL
3.95 GPA | Psychology Major
 
Baranski started all 29 matches and played every set this season. Alongside her CSC recognition, she earned a spot on the Big South All-Academic team. She leads the Blue Hose with a 3.95 GPA, 815 assists, and 364 digs, embodying the student-athlete ideal.
 
The team's primary setter recorded 20+ assists in 24 matches, with double-digit assists in all but one. Her season-high came against Temple with 43 assists while she added 11 digs to earn a double-double.
 
Ranked fifth in the Big South with 7.15 assists per set and ninth with 3.19 digs per set, Baranski logged 21 double-doubles, including two triple-doubles during conference play.
 
 
Aliza Hart | Jr. | Setter | Hartwell, GA
3.75 GPA | Political Science Major / French Minor
 
Hart appeared in 27 matches and 102 sets, finishing second on the team with 144 assists and adding 191 digs. She notched double-digit assists in seven matches, all against league opponents. Her season-best was 30 assists against USC Upstate.
 
Her consistent on-court performances played a key role in the team's success, overcoming challenges throughout the season. Due to team injuries, the setter was asked to step up and play out of her comfort zone. Without question, Hart began to help the team tremendously being an asset wherever the crew needed her.
 
 
Elyse Hutchinson | Jr. | Middle Blocker | Cambridge, Ontario, Canada
3.79 GPA | Biology Major
 
Hutchinson was one of three Blue Hose to play in all 29 matches and 114 sets. She totaled an impressive 168 kills, while leaving very little room for error. Her .265 hitting percentage ranked 10th in the Big South and showed consistency in her attacks. She also contributed 220 points during the season.
 
Defensively, Hutchinson showcased her blocking skills with 83 total blocks, recording at least three in 13 matches, highlighted by eight against Delaware State. She added 68 digs to round out her strong campaign.
 
 
Julia Yurkovich | So. | Outside Hitter | Landenberg, PA
3.88 GPA | Undeclared Major
 
Yurkovich competed in all 26 matches and 104 sets, finishing second on the team with 241 kills (2.32 kills per set). She posted 266 points for the Blue Hose this year. Yurkovich recorded double-digit kills in 11 matches, including four against Big South rivals.
 
On defense, the Pennsylvania native tallied 41 blocks, including five solo efforts. Impressively, she took at least three blocks in eight matches with five of those coming against league opponents. She also added 90 digs, demonstrating her versatility on both sides of the net.
