Blue Hose Fall to No. 18 South Carolina Despite Putting up 14 Runs

Box Score COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Presbyterian College Blue Hose baseball team (11-14) lost to the No. 18 South Carolina Gamecocks (20-5) on Tuesday evening.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Gamecocks started out strong, scoring the first seven runs of the night in the top of the first inning.
- South Carolina picked up two more runs in the bottom of the second to make the score 9-0.
- In the top of the third inning, Noah Lebron cranked a double down the left line to send two runners home for Presbyterian. On the next pitch, Ryan Becker hit a single to left field allowing Lebron to run in for a score to cut South Carolina's lead down to a score of 9-3.
- The bases were loaded in the top of the fourth inning when Joel Dragoo hit a sacrifice fly to advance runners and add one on the board for the Blue Hose. Not long after, Rhogue Wallace hit a sacrifice fly to left field, allowing Jay Wetherington to race in for Presby's fifth run of the night.
- South Carolina picked up four more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to make the score 13-5.
- With runners on first and second in the top of the fifth inning, Wetherington hit an RBI single through the right side to make the score 13-6.
- The Gamecocks scored twice in the bottom of the fifth inning to increase their lead to nine runs.
- A homer from South Carolina gave them two more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.
- Mikah Connor started off the top of the seventh inning with a single before PC scored two runs off of four walked batters. Behind a three run RBI stand up double from Rhouge Wallace, the Blue Hose cut the Gamecocks lead down to six runs with a score of 17-11.
- Presby held the Gamecocks to no runs in the bottom of the seventh after Dragoo caught a fly ball in center field before gunning down a runner at home to end the inning on a double play.
- South Carolina took another two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning, sending us to the ninth with a score of 19-11.
- PC was able to come up with three more runs in the top of the ninth inning before South Carolina secured a 19-14 victory.

NOTABLES
- Joel Dragoo has reached first base at least once in all 25 games this season.
- Noah Lebron hit his fourth double of the season, while Rhogue Wallace took his third.

UP NEXT
The Blue Hose finish out the month of March with another conference series on the road. This time in Boiling Springs, N.C. against the Gardner-Webb Bulldogs beginning on Thursday, March 28 at 6:00 p.m.
