Box Score HIGH POINT, N.C. – The Presbyterian College Blue Hose baseball team (29-27) fell to the USC Upstate Spartans (35-23) as their final game of the 2024 Big South Championship despite a grand slam from
Brody Fahr in the seventh inning.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Spartans struck first, scoring three runs in the top of the third inning.
- The Blue Hose responded in the bottom of the first when
Joel Dragoo hit a sacrifice fly with runners on second and third, sending
Jay Wetherington across home plate.
- A scoreless second inning kept the score at 3-1 in Upstate's favor heading into the third inning.
- USC Upstate extended their lead to 5-1 with two more runs in the top of the third inning.
- In the bottom of the fourth,
Jake Randolph led off with a single through the right side, followed by a strong double to left field from
Jack Gorman, advancing Randolph to third.
Evan Cuervo and
Ryan Becker then delivered RBIs to cut the Spartans' lead to 5-3.
- A double play from Presbyterian in the top of the fifth inning kept the Spartans from scoring.
- A solo home run from USC Upstate in the top of the sixth inning extended their lead to 6-3.
- In the bottom of the seventh inning, Presbyterian loaded the bases behind a single from Wetherington. Fahr then delivered a huge grand slam, giving the Blue Hose a 7-6 lead after seven innings.
- Upstate tied the game in the top of the eighth inning, but Randolph's double followed by Gorman's RBI put the Blue Hose back in front, 8-7.
- In the top of the ninth, Upstate regained the lead and held Presbyterian scoreless in the bottom of the inning to secure a 9-8 victory.

Brody Fahr's grand slam in the seventh inning marked his third home run of the year. This was also the first time the Big South Championship had seen a grand slam since the 2018 season when Campbell hit one against Gardner-Webb six years ago to the day.
