Dragoo Picked 222nd Overall by the Phillies in 2024 MLB Draft

FORT WORTH, TEXAS – Joel Dragoo of the Presbyterian College Blue Hose baseball team has been selected by the Philadelphia Phillies in the seventh round of the 2024 Major League Baseball Draft.

Following a stellar 2024 season with the Blue Hose, Dragoo was chosen as the 222nd overall pick in this year's MLB Draft. This accomplishment makes the Beckville, Texas native one of seven Presbyterian College players drafted into the MLB in the modern era. Dragoo is the second Blue Hose player to be drafted this year, following Daniel Eagen, who was picked 102nd overall in the third round. This marks the first year since 2013, when Bud Jeter was drafted by the Arizona Diamondbacks, that a player from Presbyterian has been selected.

Dragoo's season with the Blue Hose was remarkable, establishing him as one of the nation's top batters. He set the program's Division I single-season record with 18 home runs and 67 RBIs. His outstanding performance earned him the title of Big South Player of the Year, leading the league with a .401 batting average, .797 slugging percentage, and .508 on-base percentage. Additionally, Dragoo was named a First Team All-Big South player and received four Big South Player of the Week honors. More recently, Dragoo earned a spot on the NCBWA All-America roster, a feat last achieved by a PC player in 2011.

During his three years with Presbyterian, Dragoo maintained a .303 batting average over 478 at-bats. He started in 136 games and played in 152. He ranks sixth in PC's all-time career records for his .559 slugging percentage and is tied for fourth with 28 career home runs in just three years. Dragoo leads the program's Division I all-time record book with 14 sacrifice flies and ranks ninth with 267 total bases.

Dragoo's season was highlighted by several standout moments. He hit two home runs when the team hosted the Wofford Terriers on May 7. One of his best games this year was against Georgia State, where he went 4-for-4 at the plate with a single, two doubles, and a home run, scoring twice and adding an RBI to his efforts.
