CLINTON, S.C. – Presbyterian College freshman Bo Moody has been named a semifinalist for the Brooks Wallace Award as announced by the College Baseball Foundation on Wednesday (April 22).
The award honors the nation's top shortstop and will be presented by the College Baseball Foundation later this year. It is named for former Texas Tech shortstop Brooks Wallace, who played for the Red Raiders from 1977 to 1980. Wallace died of leukemia at the age of 27.
Moody was named as one of 50 of the nation's best shortstops, selected based on both offensive and defensive production this season.
Moody has been one of the most productive players in the Big South this season, leading the Blue Hose in several different statistical categories. He leads the team in hits, on-base percentage, stolen bases, doubles, and walks. He has 15 multi-hit games this year (most on the team). He also had a 22-game on-base streak earlier in the season.
He has been named Big South Freshman of the Week twice, on March 23 and April 6, becoming just the third player in program history to earn the honor more than once.
Moody is one of two shortstops recognized from the Big South. The other is High Point's Willie Ponce.
He is also one of only two freshmen to earn this prestigious honor. Linkin Garcia from Texas Tech is the only other freshman to be named a semifinalist.
