CLINTON, S.C. ? With four players in double-digit kills, the visiting Wingate University Bulldogs handed Presbyterian College a 3-1 loss in South Atlantic Conference volleyball action Friday night. Wingate improves to 9-4 on the year and 2-0 in the SAC, while the Blue Hose drop to 5-9 and 0-2 in league play.
Presbyterian jumped out in front 1-0 as the Blue Hose took the first game, 30-22. PC was impressive with its hitting as the team combined for 14 kills and only one error in 21 attempts for a .619 hitting percentage.
However, the Bulldogs regrouped and took three straight games by the scores of 30-13, 30-16, 30-20. As a team, Wingate finished with a hitting percentage of .315, including recording .414 in the second game on 12 kills, no errors and 29 attempts.
Wingate's senior Lauren Alley (Bristol, Tenn.) paced her team with 14 kills with senior Molly Kerns (Bellefontaine, Ohio) adding 13 in the win. Senior Danielle Thompson (Channelview, Texas) and freshman Jacki Emmenecker (Perrysburg, Ohio) were also in double figure kills as Thompson and Emmenecker both chipped in 10 kills apiece, while Thompson contributed 10 digs as well.
Junior Melissa Deluca (Bahama, N.C.) recorded a double-double for the Bulldogs on 55 assists and 11 digs. Junior Amanda Siegrist (Wexford, Pa.) notched a game-high and Wingate-leading 16 digs.
Freshman Julie Hollrah (Glenwood, Md.) was the Blue Hose leader with 15 kills, while senior Danielle Gill (Kings Mountain, N.C.) had 12 digs.
Presbyterian returns to action tomorrow in Templeton Gym as the Blue Hose first entertain Catawba College in conference action at 1 p.m. followed by a match against Gardner-Webb University at 4 p.m. Wingate travels to Newberry, S.C. for a SAC match against Newberry College at 1 p.m.
