LYNCHBURG, Va. ? The Presbyterian College women's
tennis team fell in its last conference match of the season to the Liberty
Flames by a 6-1 score Friday.
The Blue
Hose now stand at 2-15 overall and 0-7 in Big South Conference play.
Rookie
Daryl Thompson pulled out the lone victory for head coach Tyler Davis' team.
Thompson, the No. 6 student-athlete, posted an 8-6 win over Fabina Gouveia in
singles play.
Thompson
and teammate Virginia Waldron won a hard fought doubles match for PC. The
duo knocked off the No. 3 doubles tandem 8-7 over Valeriya Klintsevich and Gouveia.
Liberty won the doubles point, though,
sweeping the Blue Hose. Megan Davis and Abby Diminich fell to Jordan Jenkins
and Hannah Fick 8-2 at No.1. The No. 2 squad of Paige Oelke and Heather Isbell
lost 8-0 to Nadia Solomon-Burgess and Stephanie Brown.
Diminich
pushed Jenkins hard in the top singles match but was unable to come out on top.
Jenkins won the match 6-4, 6-2. Second-seeded Isbell dropped a 6-0, 6-2
decision to Brown.
Solomon-Burgess
was able to get the best of Davis, downing the student-athlete 6-2,
6-4, at the No. 3 slot.
At the No.
4 position, Oelke dropped a heartbreaker to Fick. After losing the first set
6-3, Oelke bounced back to win the second 6-3. Oelke was unable to carry the
momentum to the third set as she was defeated 6-2.
Waldron
lost at No. 5 to Klintsevich by an 8-4 score.
The Blue
Hose return to action on Apr. 14. The squad will host Washington and Lee in the
final home match of the season. The contest is slated to start at 2 p.m.
