ATLANTA, Ga. ? The
Presbyterian College baseball team was unable to start the final game of the
three-game series in similar fashion as it had Saturday night, giving up
multiple runs in three innings en route to the 23-3 loss.
The Blue Hose are now 10-34 on the season.
PC
struggled to get on base through the first six innings as not one
student-athlete reached base off Georgia Tech starter Brandon Crumpton.
In the seventh, the Blue Hose finally broke up the perfect game, no-hit bid and
shutout attempt.
Andrew
Williams laced the first pitch of the frame to the right center field gap. Two
batters later, Cory Lyda tripled him home for the team's first run of the game.
Redshirt-senior Jared Combs then grounded out to third, recording an RBI as
Lyda crossed home plate.
In the
ninth, Williams once again got on base as he roped a single through the left
side with one away on a 1-2 count. After moving to second on Mack Hite's
grounder, Williams scored on Lyda's single to right field.
The
hot-hitting Yellow Jackets scored a run in the first and broke open the game in
the second with five more. Georgia Tech actually scored at least one run in
every at bat. The Yellow jackets recorded multiple-run innings on four
occasions.
With the
score at 9-0 after four complete frames, the home team left no doubt as it
scored eight runs in the fifth for a 17-0 lead.
Mitchell
Odom started the contest for PC, tossing 1.1 innings. He took the loss as he
gave up six runs on five hits. Chris Powell worked two frames, allowing three
runs on three hits.
Jordan Pace
went 1.1 innings on the mound, giving up six runs on four hits. Charlie Abbott,
Micah Black and Stewart Curry all saw time on the mound for head coach Elton
Pollock's team.
Lyda drove
in two of the three runs for PC while Combs had the other RBI. Williams and
Lyda each accounted for two base hits. Williams was plated twice and Lyda
crossed home once.
The Blue
Hose hit the road for a Tuesday game at The Citadel before returning home Wednesday
for a doubleheader against Duke.
