Gardner Webb scored eight runs in the eighth inning to break open a two-run game and take the 13-4 win over the Presbyterian College baseball team in non-conference action this afternoon at Harley Park on the campus of USC Upstate in Spartanburg, S.C.
PC (4-3) scored a run in the first and two in the second and led 3-1 heading into the fifth inning before the Runnin' Bulldogs (6-3) made it a two-run game with four in the fifth to lead 5-3.
With two outs in the eighth Gardner Webb put together timely hits and capitalized on two PC errors to score eight runs and build a 13-3 lead. Andrew Williams (Augusta, Ga.), who led off the bottom of the first with a triple that eventually led to the game's first run, posted the game's last hit, as he drove in John Wagner (Olney, Md.) off a single to make the final score 13-4 in favor of the Runnin' Bulldogs.
Jordan Pace (Charleston, S.C.) pitched 6.0 innings and gave up nine hits and five runs for his first loss of the year.
Leading PC was Williams who went four-for-five with two RBI. Mack Hite (Abbeville, S.C.), who drove in Williams in the first, finished with two RBI.
