Tony Micklon (Sumter, S.C.) drove in five runs, off a sacrifice fly, a two-RBI single and a two-run home run, to lead the Presbyterian College baseball team to the 11-2 win over North Carolina Central this afternoon at the PC Baseball Complex.
The Blue Hose, winners of six in a row, improved to 10-6, while the Eagles dropped to 1-14.
The Eagles book-ended the game with a run in the first and another in the ninth, with the first coming off a Carter Williamson single to drive in Akeem Hood, who reached on a single up the middle. Hood posted a RBI himself in the ninth with a single to center field that brought home Alex Moore after he doubled down the left field line.
PC scattered its 11 runs with two in the first, second and sixth innings and three in the eighth. Andrew Williams (Augusta, Ga.) knocked in Tyler Hill (Goose Creek, S.C.) with a single for a run in the fourth, while Brad Zebedis (Rock Hill, S.C.) hit his fifth home run of the year to give PC a run in the fifth as well.
The first of two first-inning runs came off Micklon's sacrifice fly that brought home Williams. Gabe Grammer (Irmo, S.C.) was caught stealing second the next at bat but not before Mack Hite (Abbeville, S.C.) scored.
With two out in the third inning, Micklon ripped a single between third and second base enabling Grammer and Hite to score and PC led 4-1.
Micklon hit his third home run of the year in the sixth inning to drive in Zebedis and the Blue Hose held the 8-1 lead heading into the eighth.
Aaron Preston (Goose Creek, S.C.) brought in two runs in the eighth with his first home run of the year and Williams hit a single to right field that sent home Nate Horton for a three-run inning.
Jordan Pace (Charleston, S.C.) went 7.0 innings, giving up just one run off eight hits for his second win of the season (2-1)
The Blue Hose finished the day with 14 hits, while NCCU had 10. PC wrapped up the series sweep with 49 hits, 35 runs and 31 RBI, which included 11 doubles and four home runs. PC carried a 3.00 ERA, giving up just 14 total runs (nine earned) and striking out 18.
PC next travels to Greenville, S.C. Wednesday, Mar. 16 to take on #4 Clemson at Fluor Field at 7 p.m.
