CLINTON, S.C. – Brad Zebedis (Rock Hill, S.C.) blasted his
seventh home run of the season—tying him for the Big South lead with teammate
Tony Micklon (Sumter, S.C.)—but the Presbyterian College baseball team dropped
the first game of its weekend series on Radford on Friday, 9-1.
PC moves to 16-10 and 3-4 in the Big South while Radford
sees its record improve to 15-10 overall and 1-3 in league play.
Shortstop Andrew Williams (Augusta, Ga.) extended his
hitting streak to six games thanks to a single in the third inning. The streak
stands as the longest current on the Blue Hose and is one short of Williams'
longest for the year.
The Blue Hose ran into strong pitching and hot bats from the
Highlanders, who scored in all but two innings.
PC batters managed just two hits against Radford pitcher Eddie Butler, who struck out six in eight innings.
Zebedis scored the lone run for the home side, leading off the
bottom of the fourth with a solo bomb to left field. The home run marks the
freshman's seventh of the year, enough to share the team and conference lead
with Micklon.
PC will play the second game of the series tomorrow at 2
p.m. The Blue Hose are expected to start Bud Jeter (Columbia, S.C.) against
Mark Peterson.
