CLINTON, S.C. – Andrew Williams (Augusta, Ga.) racked up three
hits on Sunday for the Presbyterian College baseball team in its series finale
against Coastal Carolina, but the Blue Hose dropped the contest, 5-2.
PC sees its record move to 18-15 and 4-8 in the Big South,
while Coastal moves to 21-11 and 7-2 in league action.
Williams' game-high three hits helped him extend his hitting
streak to 13 games. Williams already took the season lead in that category on
Friday by registering a hit on Friday in his 11th straight game.
Williams also scored two runs in the game.
Tony Micklon (Sumter, S.C.) and Mack Hite (Abbeville, S.C.)
each batted in a run against the Chanticleers.
Designated hitter Brandon Paul (Augusta, Ga.) also added two
hits, making six straight appearances in which the redshirt junior has recorded
a hit.
The Blue Hose received solid pitching from starter Jordan
Pace (Charleston, S.C.), who fell to 2-4 with a loss. The junior allowed four
runs—three earned—in six and one-third innings of work.
Coastal grabbed a run in the first inning and two in the top
of the third before PC retaliated with a run in the bottom of the frame.
Williams drew a full-count walk and reached second on a wild
pitch, part of another full-count walk to Brad Zebedis (Rock Hill, S.C.) to put
two on with one out. Micklon then ripped a line drive up the middle to bring
Williams around and cut into the Coastal lead, 3-1. Unfortunately for the Blue
Hose, the PC nine eventually stranded three baserunners in a bases loaded
situation and the inning ended in the 3-1 deficit.
PC scored once more in the sixth after the Chanticleers
added another run in the fifth. One out away, Williams pulled a 3-1 ball down
right field line that the speedy sophomore turned into a triple. Hite then
grounded out to second base but the play gave Williams enough to score and cut
the Coastal lead in half, 4-2.
A Tommy La Stella solo home run in the ninth extended Coastal's
lead to three runs as the Chanticleers held on to win, 5-2. Jordan Coons picked
up the second win of the season.
The Blue Hose next travel to Clemson, S.C., for a matchup against the Clemson Tigers on Tuesday.
