Brad Zebedis (Rock Hill, S.C.) sparked a Blue Hose rally in the eighth with a RBI double, as the Presbyterian College baseball team almost erased a 3-0 deficit, falling short to the Radford Highlanders, 3-2, in the final game of the three-game series this afternoon at the PC Baseball Complex in Clinton, S.C.
Radford improved to 16-11 overall and 2-4 in the Big South Conference with the series win. PC dropped to 17-11 and 4-5.
Blake Sipe opened the scoring in the third for Radford when he bunted for a hit and advanced to second on a throwing error. Matt Hillsinger singled to left allowing Sipe to score. Radford made it 3-0 three batters later when Matt Mack lined a single up the middle, scoring Hillsinger and Jeff Kemp.
Zebedis cut the Radford lead to two, 3-1, in the eighth inning with his third hit of the game when he doubled down the left field line, scoring Andrew Williams (Augusta, Ga.). Two batters later Gabe Grammer's (Irmo, S.C.) single brought home Mack Hite (Abbeville, S.C.) from third to make it 3-2. PC grounded out to the shortstop the next at bat, cutting the rally short by a run.
Bobby Bolling picked up the win (3-2) for Radford. He tossed seven scoreless innings, surrendered six hits, walked two and struck out four. Abram Williams came in the eighth and pitched the Highlanders out of a bases-loaded, no-out jam in the eighth, then worked a scoreless ninth to earn a two-inning save, his seventh of the season.
Jordan Pace (Charleston, S.C.) threw a complete game, striking out four and giving up three runs, all of which were unearned, to take the loss (2-3).
Zebedis paced the Blue Hose with a four-for-five effort and one RBI. Mack led Radford, going two-for-four with two RBI.
The Blue Hose travel next to Tennessee Tuesday, April 5 for a 6 p.m. game before heading to Greenville, S.C., to take on the Furman Paladins April 6. Game time is set for 6 p.m.
