CLINTON, S.C. - The Presbyterian College baseball team (18-23, 6-9 Big South) hits the road for the first three of seven straight road games with a Big South Conference series against the Radford Highlanders (23-17, 8-4) that begins on Friday at 6:30 p.m. PC will look to rebound from a 16-4 home loss to Furman on Wednesday while Radford suffered a 3-2 defeat to No. 25 Virginia in 11 innings on Tuesday.
PC trails Radford in the Division I series that began in 2009, 2-7. The Blue Hose won the middle game of last year's series in Clinton after the Highlanders swept the Blue Hose in Radford in 2010. Brad Zebedis went 7-for-13 (.538) against Radford last season, hitting two home runs for four RBI. Chandler Knox picked up a save as well, allowing one hit in one shutout inning of relief.
Radford enters the weekend with a 23-17 reecord and an 8-4 marker in Big South play. The Highlanders took two out of three road games against Winthrop over the weekend, with Saturday's loss ending a five-game Radford winning streak. Matt Hillsinger leads the team with a .353 batting average and eight home runs on the season to rank second in the Big South Conference in homers.
PC will likely start Bud Jeter, Chandler Knox and Beau Dees opposite Radford's Eddie Butler, Tyler Costello and Mark Peterson. In the team's last three series, the PC three have combined for a 4-2 record, an ERA of 2.73 and an opposing batting average of .231. Dees has collected consecutive wins against High Point and Charleston Southern while Jeter picked up a win against Charleston Southern on Friday. Knox ranks 10th in the Big South in innings pitched (61.1) and has not received a decision in his last two starts, despite going seven innings in each appearance with three combined earned runs.
PC dropped a 16-4 contest against Furman on Wednesday. Jay Lizanich went 3-for-3 for PC while while Stewart Curry and Ryan Morris pitched effectively in relief. Four different Blue Hose also drove in a run in the effort.
PC went 2-1 last week after rain washed out a Wednesday game against NC Central. The Blue Hose took the first and final games of a series against Charleston Southern (2-1, 6-3) and dropped the Saturday game in ten innings, 7-4. Gabe Grammer picked up a save and went .500 at the plate (6-for-12) with three RBI. Billy Motroni went 6-for-12 as well while Kenny Bryant hit his team-leading seventh home run of the season.
Over the last five games, Gabe Grammer leads the team with a .474 batting average (9-for-19) and four RBI. Kenny Bryant has also posted four RBI with one home runs and a .400 average, while Jay Lizanich's .444 average (8-for-18) ranks second.
PC continues its road trip with a three-game series at No. 14 Central Florida next weekend, playing no midweek game due to final exams. The Blue Hose then end the seven-game road stretch with a May 8 afternoon game at Auburn.
