RADFORD, Va. - Presbyterian College sophomore righthander Bud Jeter (Columbia, S.C.) held the Radford Highlanders to no hits through five innings on Friday night, but the Highlanders posted seven runs over the final three innings to take the series opener, 7-0.
PC moves to 18-24 on the year and 6-10 in the Big South Conference. Radford improves to 24-17 overall and 9-4 in league action.
Each team tallied five hits on the day, but two PC errors in the sixth inning allowed the Highlanders to find the scoreboard. The result marked the first time PC has been shut out since February 19 of this season, a span of 38 games.
Kenny Bryant (Goose Creek, S.C.) led the Blue Hose with a 2-for-4 effort.
Radford's Eddie Butler pitched a complete game for the win.
Both teams went three-up, three-down in the first two innings before PC put two runners on in the third. Brandon Paul (Augusta, Ga.) stood 90 feet away from paydirt at third base but was caught at home trying to take advantage of a misplayed ball.
Two PC errors to open the sixth inning helped the Highlanders load the bases with nobody out. A hit-by-pitch brought in the game's first run and a Matt Mack single gave Radford a 2-0 lead.
Radford added three runs on three hits in the seventh before striking for two more in the eighth.
PC used a hit and a walk to put two runners aboard in the ninth inning but could not convert.
The two teams meet for the final two games of the series in a doubleheader on Saturday at 1 p.m.
