CLINTON, S.C. - The Presbyterian College baseball team (12-17, 2-7) takes a break from Big South Conference play and hits the road for a three game Thursday-Friday-Saturday series at UNC Greensboro (15-12, 4-8 SoCon). The Blue Hose have won three out of their last four games and earned their first Big South Conference series win of the season by taking two games from UNC Asheville over the weekend.
PC and UNC Greensboro meet for the first time ever this weekend. PC has gone 2-2 against Southern Conference opponents this season after dropping a narrow 5-4 contest against Wofford on March dropping a game against Furman on March 8 in Greenville, S.C. The Blue Hose won their first game against Wofford and has also knocked off Davidson, 7-6.
UNC Greensboro enters the series with a 15-12 overall record and a 4-8 marker in Southern Conference play. The Spartans dropped two of three games over the weekend against Furman and played to the third inning against Wake Forest on Tuesday before rain canceled the contest. UNC Greensboro took down Big South Conference foe UNC Asheville early in the season, 13-5, and are led by Kris Richards (.356 average, 18 RBI).
The Blue Hose will likely start Bud Jeter, Chandler Knox and Beau Dees over the weekend. Jeter and Knox have served as PC's opening 1-2 punch throughout the season, with Dees earning a spot on Sundays. Last week, the PC three combined to give up only five runs--four earned--in 20.1 innings of work against UNC Asheville.
PC took the first and final games of its three-game series against UNC Asheville over the weekend. The Blue Hose picked up his first shutout in exactly a year with a 5-0 blanking of the Bulldogs on Friday before a Nate Chong three-RBI double and a Brandon Paul home run helped the Blue Hose take a 6-2 win on Sunday. Nine different Blue Hose picked up at least one RBI over the weekend.
Over the last five games, Jay Lizanich has paced the team with a .316 average (6-for-19) while Tony Micklon checks in with a .313 average (5-for-16). Brandon Paul has driven in seven RBI in PC's last five, thanks in part to two home runs.
The Blue Hose host Davidson on Tuesday afternoon before resuming Big South Conference play with a road series at High Point, beginning on April 13 at 6 p.m. PC took two of three from the Panthers last season at High Point.
