Campbell Clips Baseball in Series Finale, 3-1

CLINTON, S.C. – The visiting Campbell Camels used a two-run home run in the top of the ninth to edge the Presbyterian College baseball team in the Sunday series finale at the PC Baseball Complex, 3-1.

PC moves to 18-16 overall and 5-4 in the Big South while Campbell improves to 28-5 and 9-3 in league action. PC next heads to Clemson on Wednesday for a 6:30 p.m. first pitch and Campbell hosts North Carolina A&T on Tuesday at 6 p.m.

Tied 1-1 in the top of the ninth, Bud Jeter (Columbia, S.C.) issued his first walk of the day and Tim Corbin (Murrells Inlet, S.C.) entered the game. Campbell third baseman Elijah Trail hit Corbin's first pitch over the left field wall for a two-run home run and the Camels went on to win, 3-1.

Jeter produced a stellar outing, allowing only two runs—one earned—in his eight and two-thirds innings. The junior also struck out seven Camels and took the loss to move to 4-2.

Catcher Robby Swab (Kernersville, N.C.) went 3-for-4 at the plate and produced PC's only RBI. The senior drove in Cam McRae (Darlington, S.C.) from third base with a single in the sixth inning to tie the game at 1-1. Swab also caught two runners stealing second from behind the plate.

Campbell took a 1-0 lead in the fifth. The Camels put two runners on via single and a fielder's choice but an error allowed Brent Graham to reach third. A sacrifice fly from Trail brought in Graham and gave Campbell its 1-0 advantage.

Jeter's strong pitching and PC's defense kept the Blue Hose within striking distance. Jeter struck out three batters in the first two innings and PC turned a double play in the effort. Jay Lizanich (Greer, S.C.) made a specactular grab on a frozen rope to end the seventh inning and shortstop Ryan Hagan (Sugar Hill, Ga.) finished a spinning throw from deep behind second base for an out in the ninth inning.

Campbell's David Olson went 3-for-5 and picked up the win in relief to move to 2-0. Ryan Thompson earned the save by pitching a scoreless ninth inning.
