CLINTON, S.C.- The Presbyterian College women's tennis team wrapped up its fall schedule recently after competing in three matches in preparation for the spring season.
The Blue Hose kicked off the year at the USC Upstate Fall Classic Sept. 19-21. Senior Greer Ransom (Athens, Ga.) dominated the Women's Singles Green Back bracket where she beat nationally ranked Rokia Sacko from Gardner-Webb in the final match by straight sets of 6-4, 6-4. Newcomer Claire-Mitchell Andrews (Tampa, Fl.) also notched a win 6-0, 6-1 win over Sharlee Deshmukh from Upstate. Freshman Demi Henschel (Alberta, Canada) knocked off Nona Ruppert from Upstate in straight sets of 6-3, 6-4. Freshman Brittany Nuttall (Atlanta, Ga.) picked up a 6-1, 6-0 win over Emily Erickson of Wofford in the Women's Singles Black Draw.
Freshman Sara McBride (Travelers Rest, S.C.) and junior Kayla Stanford (Canton, Ga.) tallied a win against Wofford in the Women's Doubles Green Draw (8-4). Freshmen duo Nuttall and Henschel defeated Wofford's newcomers 8-7 in the Green Back Draw. Sophomore Antonia Conze and senior Caroline deLoach beat Gardner-Webb 8-5 in the Doubles White Draw, while Ransom and Andrews picked up an 8-6 victory in the same bracket. McBride and deLoach also earned an 8-5 win over Wofford in the White Back Draw.
PC continued fall tennis action at the Georgia Southern Invite Oct. 3-5. Ransom battled through the consolation bracket of the 1A Singles Draw, picking up wins over Georgia Southern and Savannah College of Art and Design. Andrews and deLoach each earned wins over SCAD and Savannah State University in the 1B Singles Draw, and squared off against each other in the final round where Andrews came away with a third place finish. Henschel got two wins in straight sets in the 2A Singles Draw. Conze picked up a third place finish in the 2B Singles Draw, while McBride earned two wins in the same bracket over hosting Georgia Southern. The duo of Ransom and Henschel beat SCAD and Emory University to finish in third place in the 1 Doubles Draw. deLoach/McBride and Andrews/Nuttall each picked up wins against SSU and Emory.
The team wrapped up the fall tennis schedule at the Wofford Invite Oct. 31-Nov. 2. In the Gold Singles, Ransom earned a win over Western Carolina's Megan McLinden. Henschel earned a win in straight sets over Norfolk State in the Wofford Singles. deLoach got two wins against Norfolk and Upstate in the SoCon Singles, while Andrews also earned two wins over Lenoir Rhyne and Asheville in the Gray Singles bracket. McBride got a win in straight sets over Sofia Krsmanovic from Arkansas State in the College Singles, and Conze picked up two wins in the Terrier Singles bracket against Lenoir Rhyne and Georgia Southern. Ransom/Henschel got a win in the Gold Doubles over Gardner-Webb, while Andrews/Nuttall picked up two victories over Norfolk State and Arkansas State in Black Doubles. deLoach and McBride also got wins over Wofford and Western Carolina in the White Doubles bracket.
The Blue Hose begin the spring season at Greensboro, N.C. Saturday, January 24 at 1 p.m.
