CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College baseball team fell in its series finale to the Liberty Flames on Sunday, 8-0 at the PC Baseball Complex.
PC moves to 10-18-1 and 3-6 in the Big South. With no midweek game, the Blue Hose next head to Campbell for a weekend series that begins on Friday at 7 p.m. on ESPN3. Liberty improves to 21-7 and 8-1 in the League. The Flames next host Duke on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
Billy Motroni (Goose Creek, S.C.), Cam McRae (Darlington, S.C.), Brandon Paul (Augusta, Ga.) and Jay Lizanich (Greer, S.C.) each posted a hit in the game for PC. Brian Kehner (Marietta, Ga.) took the loss to move to 0-5 after 5.1 innings of work.
Ryan Seiz and Danny Grauer each tallied three hits for Liberty and Parker Bean threw six innings of shutout ball to move to 4-1.
Liberty went ahead early with a two-out RBI double from Andrew Yacyk to open the scoring. Ashton Perritt then followed with a deep triple to centerfield that plated a pair and gave the Flames a 3-0 lead.
The Flames added another run in the third by way of a Becker Sankey sacrifice fly to go up, 4-0.
Lizanich turned a sterling double play in the top of the fourth. The third baseman leapt to grab a screaming line drive and spun to throw across the diamond and get the runner at first.
Lizanich turned another double play—this time a 5-4-3 twin killing—to end the top of the fifth.
Back-to-back solo home runs from Alex Close and Danny Grauer in the top of the sixth gave the visitors a 6-0 lead and brought Aaron Lesiak (Greenville, S.C.) into the game. Nate Chong (Duluth, Ga.) prevented another extra base hit by crashing into the centerfield wall to make a catch for out number two.
Liberty tacked on another unearned run in the top of the eighth with an RBI groundout by Will Shepherd. One last RBI single up the middle from Dalton Britt in the ninth made it 8-0 Liberty for the final score.
Lesiak threw three innings of three-hit, two run (one earned) relief. Paul Sanders (St. Simons Island, Ga.) secured the final two outs with no runs.
