CLINTON, S.C.- The Presbyterian College women's tennis team edged USC Upstate on Thursday afternoon at the Templeton Tennis Courts, 4-3.
PC improved to 5-1 on the year and Upstate falls to 0-4. The Blue Hose take on App. State on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m., while the Spartans host UNC Greensboro on Saturday at 1 p.m.
PC got out to a 2-0 start after winning the doubles point and getting a default at line 6. Brittany Nuttall (Atlanta, Ga.) and Claire-Mitchell Andrews (Tampa, Fla.) earned an 8-1 win at No. 2 doubles and Upstate did not field a No. 3 doubles squad.
Andrews dropped a match at No. 4 singles, 6-2, 6-2, and Greer Ransom (Athens, Ga.) fell to Isabel Von Stryk at line 1, 6-1, 6-0 to tie the score up 2-2.
Nona Ruppert knocked off Nuttall at No. 2 singles, 6-2, 6-1, to put the Spartans up 3-2 with two matches to play.
Demi Henschel (Alberta, Canada) tied it up 3-3 when she defeated Anna Zoske at No. 3 singles 6-2, 6-2 to be PC's highest finish of the day and set up Caroline deLoach (Columbia, S.C.) for the match-point at line 5.
deLoach decided the outcome with a 6-3, 7-5 win over Sharlee Deshmukh at No. 5 singles to give PC the 4-3 victory.
