PC Remains Perfect on Spring Break Trip

ORLANDO, FLA.- The Presbyterian College women's tennis team picked up two wins on Wednesday in the second day of Spring Break action in Orlando, Fla. 

The Blue Hose improve to 10-3 on the year. The team takes on Wofford next Wednesday, March 11 in Spartanburg, at 2:30 p.m.

Against the University of Detroit Mercy on Wednesday morning, the Blue Hose earned a 4-3 comeback win in a nearly 6-hour match.

PC got out to an 0-3 start after the Titans earned the doubles point with wins at flight one and three, as well as singles wins at No. 3 and 4. Brittany Nuttall (Atlanta, Ga.) and Claire-Mitchell Andrews (Tampa, Fla.) got a 6-4 win at No. 2 doubles despite PC's other two teams dropping their matches.  

Greer Ransom (Athens, Ga.) sparked PC's comeback with a 6-4, 6-4 win at No. 1 singles over Sasha Nionova. Nuttall fought back for a 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 win at No. 2, as did Caroline deLoach (Columbia, S.C.) at No. 5, 4-6, 6-0, 6-3. 

Sara McBride (Travelers Rest, S.C.) decided the match for PC when she battled off five match points in the second set to come back and win in the third set by a score of 3-6, 7-6 (7-3), 6-3.

Later in the evening, the Blue Hose swept Saginaw Valley State, 7-0.

Singles played first in the evening match. Andrews earned a 6-1, 6-2 win at line 4 and Demi Henschel (Alberta, Canada) won 6-0, 6-2 at line 3 to get the Blue Hose out to a 2-0 lead. 

Ransom, Nuttall, and deLoach won their second matches of the day, and Madison Utberg (Roswell, Ga.) got a 6-1, 7-5 win at No. 6 singles to help secure the win for the Blue Hose. 

All three doubles teams earned wins against Saginaw Valley State. Nuttall and Andrews got an 8-7 win at No. 1 doubles. deLoach and McBride defeated the No. 2 doubles team of Meghan Woody and Lauren Sharp, 8-6, and Utberg and Antonia Conze (Willich, Germany) picked up an 8-5 victory at No. 3 doubles.
