ROCK HILL, S.C. – Presbyterian College baseball fell in the second game of its Big South series at Winthrop on Saturday, falling to the Eagles in a 10-2 result.
PC (24-26, 4-16 Big South) and Winthrop (34-16, 12-8 Big South) will play the series finale on Sunday at 1 p.m.
PC struggled to find offense a day after racking up 19 hits, going hitless on Saturday through the first six innings. Jay Lizanich (Greer, S.C.) broke through in the seventh with one of his team-high two hits and scored soon after on a Cam McRae (Darlington, S.C.) RBI double. Jacob Midkiff (Rock Hill, S.C.) then drove in McRae with an RBI single, making the score 8-2.
The day marked Lizanich's 22nd multiple-hit game this season, giving him the team lead in that category.
Beau Dees (Blenheim, S.C.) took the loss to move to 2-5. Dees pitched five innings and allowed five earned runs. Hayden Deal (Newton, N.C.) struck out two in two innings and Michael Trebendis (Fayetteville, Ga.) fanned two in one inning of work as well.
Winthrop took an 8-0 lead behind a five-run sixth-inning. Anthony Paulsen went 3-for-4 and Jace Whitley went 2-for-4 with four RBI that included a home run. Matt Crohan improved to 7-3 with the victory.
Lizanich doubled in the ninth but PC could not bring the shortstop home.
Tyler Weyenberg (Marietta, Ga.) saw his 12-game hitting streak come to an end, one game shy of the Peter Johnson's (Seattle, Wash.) season-long.
Seniors Beau Dees, Jay Lizanich, Brandon Martin, Cam McRae, Billy Motroni and Chad White walked in PC's graduation ceremony earlier in the day.
