Baseball Travels to South Carolina for Midweek Contest

CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College Baseball team returns to action on Tuesday night with a road contest at South Carolina set for 7 p.m. from Founders Park. The game will be shown on SEC Network Plus on Tuesday night.

About the Blue Hose
• The Presbyterian College baseball team could not overcome a 12-run third inning from host Campbell as the Fighting Camels recorded a 36-4 victory on Sunday afternoon at Jim Perry Stadium.
• The Presbyterian College baseball team used the power of seven-run second to propel the Blue Hose to a 12-8 victory on Saturday afternoon over the host Campbell at Jim Perry Stadium. Brody Fahr led the offense with three RBIs as Jeremiah Boyd and Chris Veach each hit homers in the victory. Eric Toth set a single-game Blue Hose DI record for stolen bases with four on Saturday.
• The Presbyterian College baseball team dropped its series opener to Campbell, 5-2 on Friday night at Jim Perry Stadium. Sophomore Chris Veach led the Blue Hose offense with three hits including his first home run of the 2022 season.
 
Series History
• South Carolina leads the all-time series against the Blue Hose winning 10 of the prior 12 meetings including the last head-to-head in 2020.
• PC last tallied a win over the Gamecocks in 2018 with a 7-4 victory in Columbia.
 
Blue Hose Leaders
Eric Toth currently ranks fifth in the Big South with 24 runs scored on the year leading the Blue Hose offense.
Kyle Decker ranks sixth in the league with a team-high eight stolen bases. Jay Wetherington and Toth sit one behind in a tie for seventh with seven stolen bases apiece.
Duncan Howard is in a tied for second with his three victories so far in 2022. Howard is also seventh in the league with 33 strikeouts.
• Toth sits third in the conference with his three saves.
 
Last Five Games & 10 Games
Brody Fahr is leading the offense over the last five games with a .444 average (8-of-18) with three extra base hits inclduing a triple along with six RBIs.
Chris Veach has hit .429 (6-of-14) with two homers in the same time span.
Jack Gorman leads PC in the last ten games with a .406 average (13-of-32) with four doubles and eight runs knocked in.
• Senior Eric Toth has scored 13 runs and swipped seven bases in the last ten for Presbyterian.
• Over his last 5.1 innings, junior Colbey Klepper has allowed one earned run and totaled six strikeouts for the Blue Hose to pace the pitching staff.
 
Scouting South Carolina
• South Carolina comes into Tuesday's matchup with a 12-11 record following a series win over Vanderbilt last time out.
• Andrew Eyster leads the Gamecocks with a .367 average including five doubles, four homers and a team-high 27 runs knocked in. Braylen Wimmer checks in with a .348 average with five doubles and 18 RBIs.
• Brandt Belk has a .346 average including seven doubles and three homers.
• On the mound, Cade Austin is 1-0 over 11 apperances including a pair of starts. Austin has allowed nine earned runs in 23.2 innings with 22 strikeouts.
• Will Sanders is 4-1 with a 3.44 ERA over six starts with 43 strikeouts on the year.
• The Gamecocks also earned a non-conference series win against No. 1 Texas earlier this season.
 
PC Swipping Bases
• Led by senior Eric Toth's DI record four stolen bases on Saturday in the Blue Hose 12-8 victory, Presbyterian has swipped 30 bases so far in the 2022 season.
• In the last 10 games, Toth leads the team with seven stolen bases. Jay Wetherington has added four along with Kyle Decker.
• Decker leads the way for PC with eight and Wetherington and Toth with seven apiece. Jack Gorman has added three.
• PC has had eight different players steal a base so far in 23 games this year.
 
Toth Named Big South Player of the Week
• Following a 7-for-13 week at the plate, Presbyterian College baseball senior Eric Toth (Mobile, Ala.) has been named the Big South Player of the Week for games played Feb. 28-Mar.6, as announced by the league office on Monday.
• He began his week with a 2-for-4 performance in a midweek defeat against Charleston. Toth opened the weekend against Bellarmine with a season-high three hits including a double and run driven in during the Blue Hose 9-3 win over Bellarmine.
• The senior continued his strong week at the plate with his second homer of the season on Saturday in a 5-0 shutout before adding an RBI double and scoring two runs in Presbyterian's 8-4 series finale win over the Knights.
• Over the four-game week, Toth slugged .923 and got on base at a .611 clip as he was able to raise his batting average from .290 up to .364.
 
Dearman Earns Big South Relief Pitcher of the Week Honors
• Following his first collegiate save on Saturday, Presbyterian College baseball senior left-handed pitcher Clark Dearman (Milton, Ga.) has been named the Big South Relief Pitcher of the Week for games played Feb. 21-Feb. 27, as announced by the league office on Monday.
• Dearman began the week with 1.1 scoreless frames in the Blue Hose midweek contest against Georgia Tech. He recorded a pair of strikeouts in the outing against the Yellow Jackets allowing a hit and a walk.
• The Milton, Ga. native returned to the hill on Saturday afternoon and pitched the final two innings of the Blue Hose 5-1 game one victory against Manhattan to earn his first collegiate save.  He recorded three punchouts in the two innings against the Jaspers.
• Dearman leads the team with four appearances as he has allowed two earned runs in 5.1 innings while totaling eight strikeouts this season.
 
Blue Hose Long Ball
• The Blue Hose have totaled 14 home runs over 23 games including six long balls in the last five games. Chris Veach and Jeremiah Boyd each have tallied two homers in the last five along with Dalton Reeves and Eric Toth each adding one
• On the year, Boyd and Toth each have hit three homers with Chase Hughes and Veach adding two apiece.
Jack Gorman, Sean Klein, Ryan Ouzts and Reeves each have hit one so far this season.
