Baseball Set to Host Georgia Southern on Tuesday Night

CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College Baseball team makes a quick stop at home on Tuesday for a midweek matchup against Georgia Southern set for 6 p.m. at the PC Baseball Complex. It's the Blue Hose lone home game in a seven-game stretch that PC is currently in the middle of this week.

About the Blue Hose
The Presbyterian College baseball team dropped a doubleheader on Sunday to the host Morehead State. The Eagles recorded a 6-5 win in nine innings in game one before an 18-3 victory in the series finale in seven innings at Allen Field.
• The Presbyterian College baseball team totaled a season-high 16 hits en route to an 11-7 victory over Morehead State on Saturday afternoon at Allen Field. Jay Wetherington and Dalton Reeves led the Blue Hose offense with three hits apiece.
 
Series History
Georgia Southern has won each of the prior four meetings over the Blue Hose including a 10-5 decision in April of 2019 in Statesboro.
• Tuesday will be the first time the two teams have met in Clinton after the first four meetings were hosted by Georgia Southern.
 
Blue Hose Leaders
Dalton Reeves ranks sixth in the conference with nine doubles on the season.
Eric Toth is fifth in the league in runs scored with 29 and nine in hits with 37. He also leads the league with four saves.
Jay Wetherington is third in the conference with 13 stolen bases, while ranking seventh in batting average at .346.
Duncan Howard sits third in the conference with four wins and ranks seventh in earned run average with a 3.15.
 
Record Chasing
• With his next save, senior Eric Toth would become the DI program record holder for saves with 13. Toth has four saves on the season.
Kyle Decker needs two stolen bases to tie for fifth in the DI career record book for stolen bases. Decker currently has 22 and would tie Jeese Harmon with 24.
 
Last Five Games & 10 Games
Dalton Reeves is pacing the Blue Hose with a .400 average (6-of-15) over the last five games with two doubles in that stretch.
Jack Gorman is leading the way for PC in last 10 games with 10 RBIs.
•Over his last six appearances, Logan Ymker has tossed 9.2 innings allowing just two earned runs with 16 strikeouts.
Brody Fahr is hitting .429 (15-of-35) over the last 10 games with five extra base hits (three doubles, two triples) while knocking in eight runs.
 
Scouting Georgia Southern
• Georgia Southern enters Tuesday's game with a 20-11 record which includes an 8-4 mark in the Sun Belt.
• Jason Swan leads the Eagles with a .333 average which includes a team-high 10 doubles and has also connected on three homers. Austin Thompson leads GSU with six homers on the season, while Noah Ledford has recorded 31 RBIs.
• Ga'Von Wray is 5-1 over 13 relief appearances with a 3.22 ERA. Ty Fisher is 2-1 over six starts with a 3.44 ERA.
• Jay Thompson has seen action in a team-high 20 games with a 2-1 record and has also tallied a team-high five saves.
• The Eagles are fifth nationally in sacrifice bunts with 27 led by Christian Avant with nine and Parker Biederer with seven sac bunts on the year.
 
PC Swiping Bases
• The Blue Hose totaled seven stolen bases over the three games at Morehead State led by a trio with a pair of stolen bases.
Jay Wetherington leads the team with 13 stolen bases as Eric Toth has totaled 10 stolen bases.
Kyle Decker is a perfect 9-of-9 on the bases. Jack Gorman has totaled five SBs.
• PC has had nine players record a stolen base led by Wetherington's 13 which leads the Blue Hose to 44 on the year.
 
Ymker Earns Second Straight Relief Pitcher of the Week Award
• Junior Logan Ymker (Sioux Falls, S.D.) has been named the Big South Relief Pitcher of the Week for the second straight week for games played April 4-10, as announced by the league office on Monday.
• Ymker opened the weekend at Morehead State tossing the final two innings of the Blue Hose 11-7 win over the Eagles. He sat down the first five batters he faced on Saturday before a two-out single was his lone blemish. Ymker struck out a season-high five batters to help finish off Saturday's win for the Blue Hose. He pitched in Sunday's series finale at Morehead State recording the final two outs which included his sixth strikeout of the weekend.
• Over his last six appearances, Ymker has allowed two earned runs over 9.2 innings allowing just one walk and totaling 16 strikeouts. The Sioux Falls, S.D. native is limiting batters to .147 opponents batting average as he has recorded a 1.86 earned run average in that stretch.
• Ymker is the first Big South reliever since May of 2019 to win back-to-back weekly awards when Winthrop's Colten Rendon won three straight at the end of the 2019 season.
 
Toth Named Big South Player of the Week
• Following a 7-for-13 week at the plate, Presbyterian College baseball senior Eric Toth (Mobile, Ala.) has been named the Big South Player of the Week for games played Feb. 28-Mar.6, as announced by the league office on Monday.
• He began his week with a 2-for-4 performance in a midweek defeat against Charleston. Toth opened the weekend against Bellarmine with a season-high three hits including a double and run driven in during the Blue Hose 9-3 win over Bellarmine.
• The senior continued his strong week at the plate with his second homer of the season on Saturday in a 5-0 shutout before adding an RBI double and scoring two runs in Presbyterian's 8-4 series finale win over the Knights.
• Over the four-game week, Toth slugged .923 and got on base at a .611 clip as he was able to raise his batting average from .290 up to .364.
 
Dearman Earns Big South Relief Pitcher of the Week Honors
• Following his first collegiate save on Saturday, Presbyterian College baseball senior left-handed pitcher Clark Dearman (Milton, Ga.) has been named the Big South Relief Pitcher of the Week for games played Feb. 21-Feb. 27, as announced by the league office on Monday.
• Dearman began the week with 1.1 scoreless frames in the Blue Hose midweek contest against Georgia Tech. He recorded a pair of strikeouts in the outing against the Yellow Jackets allowing a hit and a walk.
• The Milton, Ga. native returned to the hill on Saturday afternoon and pitched the final two innings of the Blue Hose 5-1 game one victory against Manhattan to earn his first collegiate save.  He recorded three punchouts in the two innings against the Jaspers.
• Dearman leads the team with four appearances as he has allowed two earned runs in 5.1 innings while totaling eight strikeouts this season.
 
Blue Hose Long Ball
• The Blue Hose have totaled 20 homers on the season led by a trio of players with three. Eric Toth, Chase Hughes and Jeremiah Boyd each have three on the year.
Jack Gorman, Dalton Reeves, Chris Veach and Joel Dragoo each have hit two homers. Jay Wetherington, Sean Klein and Ryan Ouzts have each hit one apiece.
 
Blue Hose in the Minors
• Former Blue Hose pitcher Hayden Deal opened his 2022 season over the weekend tossing 2.2 scoreless innings with four strikeouts for the Mississippi Braves, the AA Affiliate of the defending champion Atlanta Braves.
• As he begins his fifth year in pro baseball in 2022, Deal is 20-15 with a 3.1 ERA as over 319.2 innings pitched he has racked up 284 strikeouts. He also added five saves in his minor league career.

• PC hits the road once again beginning on Thursday for a three-game series at Longwood with first pitch set for 6 p.m… The series continues with a 6 p.m. first pitch on Friday before a 2 p.m. start on Saturday in the series finale.
