Baseball Begins Busy Week with Pair of Non-Conference Contests

CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College baseball team opens a five-game week beginning on Tuesday with a 6 p.m. first pitch against Clemson on ACC Network Extra. On Wednesday, PC will travel to Western Carolina for a 5 p.m. first pitch on ESPN+.

About the Blue Hose
• The Presbyterian College baseball team continued to swing the bat effectively en route to completing the three-game sweep of Winthrop with a 6-4 victory on Sunday afternoon at the PC Baseball Complex. Senior Jeremiah Boyd tallied three RBIs to lead the offensive attack.
• The Presbyterian College baseball team clinched its third straight conference series victory on Saturday afternoon with a 6-1 win on senior day at the PC Baseball Complex. Jay Wetherington led the offense with three hits including a double.
•  The Presbyterian College baseball team used 10 runs over the first five innings and staved off a late charge from Winthrop to take Friday's series opener 10-5 at the PC Baseball Complex. Eric Toth and Ryan Ouzts led the offense with three hits apiece and Charlie McDaniel tossed eight innings to grab his fifth win of the year.
 
Series History
• Clemson leads PC in the all-time series 9-4 with Clemson winning the last meeting in 2020 by the score of 12-0. The Blue Hose and Tigers meeting in 2020 was the final game of that season as the remainder of the 2020 campaign was canceled due to COVID-19.
• WCU holds a 4-2 advantage over PC in the all-time series with the Catamounts taking down the Blue Hose 15-2 in early March.
 
Blue Hose Leaders
Eric Toth sits fourth in the league with a .355 batting average. He's third in the league in runs with 43 and tied for first in the Big South with 54 hits.
Dalton Reeves sits eighth in the conference with 11 doubles.
• Toth and Jay Wetherington are tied for sixth with 15 stolen bases and Kyle Decker is ninth with 13 steals.
Duncan Howard is tied for second with sixth wins and is fifth with a 2.79 ERA.
 
Last Five Games & 10 Games
Dalton Reeves led the Blue Hose with a .500 average (9-of-18) with six RBIs along with a double and a homer in the last five games.
Ryan Ouzts and Noah Lebron have each tallied six hits in the Blue Hose last five contests.
• In the last 10 games, Eric Toth is hitting .432 (19-of-44) with a team-high 16 runs scored along with seven RBIs. He's also swiped seven bases in that stretch.
• As a team, PC is hitting .307 over the last 10 games led by Toth at .432.
• In his last three starts, Duncan Howard is 2-0 allowing just six earned runs in that stretch.
 
Scouting the Tigers
• Clemson enters Tuesday's game with a 26-14 record after taking two-of-three from Florida State over the weekend.
• The Tigers offense is led by Max Wagner who's hitting .366 with a team-high 12 doubles and is seventh in the nation with 17 home runs.
•Cooper Ingle is sitting at .348 with eight doubles and five homers, while Benjamin Blackwell is .345 with 10 extra base hits.
• Caden Grice and Blake Wright have both connected on eight homers.
• Ricky Williams is 1-0 over six outings tossing 10.1 inning and allowing just one earned run. Austin Gordon is 0-0 with a 1.64 ERA.
 
Scouting the Catamounts
• Western Carolina begins the week at 18-21 following taking two-of-three from The Citadel last weekend.
• The Catamounts are led offensively by Will Prater who's hitting .338 with 13 doubles and 36 runs knocked in. Immanuel Wilder is at .326 with five doubles and five homers.
• Pascanel Ferreras is at .309 with 10 doubles and eight homers.
• On the mound, Zach Franklin leads WCU with a 3-1 mark to go along with a 2.37 ERA in 38 innings pitched he's allowed just 10 earned runs.
• Zebby Matthews is the top strikeout pitcher for Western Carolina totaling 74 over 59 innings pitched this season making 14 appearances and 10 starts.
 
Dearman Earns Big South Relief Pitcher of the Week Honors
• Following his two scoreless innings of relief on Thursday night, Presbyterian College baseball senior left-handed pitcher Clark Dearman (Milton, Ga.) has been named the Big South Relief Pitcher of the Week for games played April 12-17, as announced by the league office on Monday.
• In his lone appearance, Dearman entered in the eighth inning on Thursday night of the Blue Hose 7-5 win over Longwood. He struck out the side in the eighth before adding a punchout in the ninth en route to the Blue Hose series opening win. He needed just 26 pitches over six batters to record his third save of the 2022 season.
• He is third on the team with 13 appearances as he leads all Blue Hose relievers with a 3.63 ERA and is second on the team with three saves.
• This is the fourth Big South Relief Pitcher of the Week for Presbyterian and third in a row as Logan Ymker won the award the past two weeks. Dearman also picked up an award earlier this season.
 
Ymker Earns Second Straight Relief Pitcher of the Week Award
• Junior Logan Ymker (Sioux Falls, S.D.) has been named the Big South Relief Pitcher of the Week for the second straight week for games played April 4-10, as announced by the league office on Monday.
• Ymker opened the weekend at Morehead State tossing the final two innings of the Blue Hose 11-7 win over the Eagles. He sat down the first five batters he faced on Saturday before a two-out single was his lone blemish. Ymker struck out a season-high five batters to help finish off Saturday's win for the Blue Hose. He pitched in Sunday's series finale at Morehead State recording the final two outs which included his sixth strikeout of the weekend.
• Over his last six appearances, Ymker has allowed two earned runs over 9.2 innings allowing just one walk and totaling 16 strikeouts. The Sioux Falls, S.D. native is limiting batters to .147 opponents batting average as he has recorded a 1.86 earned run average in that stretch.
• Ymker is the first Big South reliever since May of 2019 to win back-to-back weekly awards when Winthrop's Colten Rendon won three straight at the end of the 2019 season.
 
Toth Named Big South Player of the Week
• Following a 7-for-13 week at the plate, Presbyterian College baseball senior Eric Toth (Mobile, Ala.) has been named the Big South Player of the Week for games played Feb. 28-Mar.6, as announced by the league office on Monday.
• He began his week with a 2-for-4 performance in a midweek defeat against Charleston. Toth opened the weekend against Bellarmine with a season-high three hits including a double and run driven in during the Blue Hose 9-3 win over Bellarmine.
• The senior continued his strong week at the plate with his second homer of the season on Saturday in a 5-0 shutout before adding an RBI double and scoring two runs in Presbyterian's 8-4 series finale win over the Knights.
• Over the four-game week, Toth slugged .923 and got on base at a .611 clip as he was able to raise his batting average from .290 up to .364.
 
Blue Hose in the Minors
• Former Blue Hose pitcher Hayden Deal has begun his 2022 season over the weekend tossing 13.1 innings over five appearances allowing just two earned runs with 14 strikeouts for the Mississippi Braves, the AA Affiliate of the defending champion Atlanta Braves.
• As he begins his fifth year in pro baseball in 2022, Deal is 20-15 with a 3.05 ERA as over 330.1 innings pitched he has racked up 294 strikeouts. He also added five saves in his minor league career.

• The Blue Hose return home beginning on Saturday at 2 p.m. for a doubleheader against James Madison. PC and JMU will wrap up the series on Sunday at 1 p.m. from Clinton.
