PC Battles Wofford on Wednesday Night

CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College baseball team hits the road on Wednesday for a midweek clash with nearby foe Wofford at 6 p.m. from Russell C. King Field in Spartanburg. The Blue Hose will look to avenge an 8-7 defeat in 11 innings back on April 20th in Clinton.

About the Blue Hose
• The Presbyterian College baseball team dropped its series finale on Sunday afternoon to Charleston Southern 8-2 at Nielsen Field. Eric Toth tallied a pair of hits for PC as Jack Gorman and Jeremiah Boyd grabbed an RBI apiece.
• The Presbyterian College baseball team used an offensive explosion of 22 runs and 23 hits in game one on Saturday to defeat Charleston Southern 22-8 at Nielsen Field. CSU took the nightcap by the score of 4-2 to split the twinbill.
 
Series History
• PC holds a 17-16 edge over Wofford in the head-to-head series throughout the Blue Hose DI era.
• In the last meeting with the Terriers, The Presbyterian College baseball team battled in its longest game of the 2022 season against #24 Wofford before dropping an 8-7 decision in 11 innings to the visiting Terriers at the PC Baseball Complex. Sophomore Noah Lebron led the Blue Hose on Tuesday with three hits.
 
Blue Hose Record Chasers
• With each guys next win, sophomores Duncan Howard and Charlie McDaniel with become the single-season DI record holder for wins with eight in a season.
• With his next save, senior Eric Toth will become the DI career record holder for saves with 13 in his time at Presbyterian.
Jay Wetherington needs three stolen bases to tie for second in the single-season DI record book for steals. Wetherington currently has 16 entering the weekend. Kyle Decker and Eric Toth both sit right behind Wetherington with 15 steals.
 
Last Five Games & 10 Games
Jay Wetherington is pacing the Blue Hose in their last five contests with a .375 average (9-of-24) with five runs scored to go along with three doubles and a homer.
Ryan Ouzts has driven in a team-high six runs in the last five games.
Eric Toth is 17-of-39 (.436) in PC's last 10 contests with 12 runs scored and six RBIs.
Duncan Howard has allowed one earned run in his last four outings that span 21 innings. He's tallied two wins in a save in that stretch for PC.
Tanner Smith has totaled five shutout innings in his last three outings with seven strikeouts.
 
Blue Hose in the Ranks
Eric Toth sits second in the league in batting average at a .363 mark. Toth leads the league with 66 hits and is third in runs scored with 51.
Dalton Reeves is tied for third in the conference with 14 doubles while Jack Gorman is tied for fifth with 13 doubles.
Jay Wetherington is tied for fifth in the league with 16 stolen bases as Toth and Kyle Decker are tied for eighth at 15 steals.
Duncan Howard and Charlie McDaniel both sit in a tie for second in the league with seven victories apiece.
 
Scouting the Terriers
• Wofford comes into Wednesday's matchup with a 35-13 record following a three-game sweep of The Citadel last weekend.
• Lawson Hill leads the way for Wofford with a .384 average which includes 16 doubles and 32 RBIs along with 11 stolen bases.
• John Dempsey sits at .356 with 10 homers and Brennen Dorighi is coming into Wednesday's game at .346 with 10 doubles and seven homers.
• Jack Renwick leads the way with 29 steals as Marshall Toole has 16 and Ryan Galanie has 12 stolen bases.
• Wofford ranks 12th in the nation with a .311 batting average. The Terriers are third in the country with 125 steals and third in the NCAA with 48 sacrifice bunts.
• Holden Wilder leads the Terriers with a 7-0 record to go along with a 1.93 ERA. Luke Stephens is 1-1 with a 2.67 ERA.
 
Howard Earns Big South Starting Pitcher of the Week Honors
• Following his seventh win of the season with seven shutout innings on Saturday afternoon, Presbyterian College baseball sophomore right-handed pitcher Duncan Howard (Kernersville, N.C.) has been named the Big South Starting Pitcher of the Week for April 25-May 1, as announced by the league office on Monday.
• Howard continued his dominance in 2022 tossing seven shutout innings in a 3-1 win over James Madison on Saturday afternoon. He scattered six hits and allowed a pair of walks with four strikeouts en route to his seventh win of the 2022 season.
• He also added a scoreless inning of relief in midweek action against Western Carolina on Wednesday night that saw the Blue Hose sophomore earn his first save of the season.The Blue Hose Saturday starter hasn't allowed an earned run over his last 15.2 innings of work which goes back over his last four appearances which he has totaled 15 strikeouts in those outings.
 
Dearman Earns Big South Relief Pitcher of the Week Honors
• Following his two scoreless innings of relief on Thursday night, Presbyterian College baseball senior left-handed pitcher Clark Dearman (Milton, Ga.) has been named the Big South Relief Pitcher of the Week for games played April 12-17, as announced by the league office on Monday.
• In his lone appearance, Dearman entered in the eighth inning on Thursday night of the Blue Hose 7-5 win over Longwood. He struck out the side in the eighth before adding a punchout in the ninth en route to the Blue Hose series opening win. He needed just 26 pitches over six batters to record his third save of the 2022 season.
• He is third on the team with 13 appearances as he leads all Blue Hose relievers with a 3.63 ERA and is second on the team with three saves.
• This is the fourth Big South Relief Pitcher of the Week for Presbyterian and third in a row as Logan Ymker won the award the past two weeks. Dearman also picked up an award earlier this season.
 
Ymker Earns Second Straight Relief Pitcher of the Week Award
• Junior Logan Ymker (Sioux Falls, S.D.) has been named the Big South Relief Pitcher of the Week for the second straight week for games played April 4-10, as announced by the league office on Monday.
• Ymker opened the weekend at Morehead State tossing the final two innings of the Blue Hose 11-7 win over the Eagles. He sat down the first five batters he faced on Saturday before a two-out single was his lone blemish. Ymker struck out a season-high five batters to help finish off Saturday's win for the Blue Hose. He pitched in Sunday's series finale at Morehead State recording the final two outs which included his sixth strikeout of the weekend.
• Over his last six appearances, Ymker has allowed two earned runs over 9.2 innings allowing just one walk and totaling 16 strikeouts. The Sioux Falls, S.D. native is limiting batters to .147 opponents batting average as he has recorded a 1.86 earned run average in that stretch.
• Ymker is the first Big South reliever since May of 2019 to win back-to-back weekly awards when Winthrop's Colten Rendon won three straight at the end of the 2019 season.
 
Toth Named Big South Player of the Week
• Following a 7-for-13 week at the plate, Presbyterian College baseball senior Eric Toth (Mobile, Ala.) has been named the Big South Player of the Week for games played Feb. 28-Mar.6, as announced by the league office on Monday.
• He began his week with a 2-for-4 performance in a midweek defeat against Charleston. Toth opened the weekend against Bellarmine with a season-high three hits including a double and run driven in during the Blue Hose 9-3 win over Bellarmine.
• The senior continued his strong week at the plate with his second homer of the season on Saturday in a 5-0 shutout before adding an RBI double and scoring two runs in Presbyterian's 8-4 series finale win over the Knights.
• Over the four-game week, Toth slugged .923 and got on base at a .611 clip as he was able to raise his batting average from .290 up to .364.
 
Blue Hose in the Minors
• Former Blue Hose pitcher Hayden Deal has begun his 2022 with a 1-0 record tossing 18.2 innings over eight appearances allowing just two earned runs with 19 strikeouts for the Mississippi Braves, the AA Affiliate of the defending champion Atlanta Braves.
• As he begins his fifth year in pro baseball in 2022, Deal is 21-15 with a 3.00 ERA as over 335.2 innings pitched he has racked up 299 strikeouts. He also added five saves in his minor league career.

• The Blue Hose head to Boiling Springs beginning on Friday for a three-game series with Gardner-Webb beginning at 6 p.m. on Friday night.
