Blue Hose Travel to UGA for Final Midweek of Season

CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College baseball team hits the road on Tuesday for the final time during the 2022 regular season heading to face Georgia at 6 p.m. from Foley Field in Athens. The game will be shown on SEC Network + on Tuesday night.

About the Blue Hose
• Gardner-Webb used a three-run homer from Alec Burns in the bottom of the ninth to rally past the Presbyterian College baseball team 6-5 on Sunday afternoon at Bill Masters Field. Jeremiah Boyd connected on his fifth homer along with Kyle Decker hitting his first of the season on Sunday.
• The Presbyterian College baseball team dropped Saturday's contest 9-4 against the host Gardner-Webb Runnin' Bulldogs at Bill Masters Field. Ryan Ouzts hit his fifth homer of the season in the sixth inning.
• Sophomore Jay Wetherington connected on his third homer of the season against Gardner-Webb but the Presbyterian College baseball team came out on the wrong end of an 11-3 contest on Friday night at Bill Masters Field.
 
Series History
• Georgia has won each of the prior 13 meetings against PC in the DI era. The Bulldogs and Blue Hose last played in Athens on March 9 with UGA winning a doubleheader 7-6 and 8-1.
 
Blue Hose Record Chasers
• With each guys next win, sophomores Duncan Howard and Charlie McDaniel with become the single-season DI record holder for wins with eight in a season.
• With his next save, senior Eric Toth will become the DI career record holder for saves with 13 in his time at Presbyterian.
Jay Wetherington needs two stolen bases to tie for second in the single-season DI record book for steals. Wetherington currently has 17 entering the final week of the regular season. Eric Toth has 16 steals and Kyle Decker 15 right behind Wetherington.
 
Last Five Games & 10 Games
Ryan Ouzts is pacing the Blue Hose over the last 10 games with a .355 average which includes two doubles, three homers and a team-high 10 RBIs.
Jay Wetherington is hitting .302 in the same stretch with three doubles, two homers and six runs knocked in.
• Sophomore Duncan Howard is 1-1 over his last three starts allowing four earned runs in 17 innings.
 
Blue Hose in the Ranks
Eric Toth is tied for third in the Big South hitting .342 throughout the 2022 season. Toth is also tied for first in the league in hits with 67 and fourth in runs at 52.
Dalton Reeves is tied for fourth with 14 doubles on the year as Jack Gorma is in a tie for eighth with 13 doubles.
Brody Fahr paces the Big South with six sacrifice flies which is also 22nd in the nation.
Jay Wetherington ranks fifth in the Big South with 17 steals as Eric Toth is tied for sixth with 16.
Duncan Howard and Charlie McDaniel are both tied for third with seven wins on the season. Howard is also fifth in the league in ERA at 2.61.
 
Scouting Georgia
• Georgia enters Tuesday's contest with a 33-18 record following losing two-of-three to top ranked Tennessee over the weekend.
• Connor Tate leads the Bulldogs with a .356 average including 16 doubles, 10 homers and 51 RBIs on the season.
• Cole Tate checks in with a .338 average inclduing four doubles and four homers.
• Corey Collins has also connected on a team-high 10 homers.
• Max DeJong has allowed one earned run over eight outings that span seven innings. Jack Gowen has limited opponents to six earned in 32.1 innings pitched with an opponents batting average of .140.
 
Howard Earns Big South Starting Pitcher of the Week Honors
• Following his seventh win of the season with seven shutout innings on Saturday afternoon, Presbyterian College baseball sophomore right-handed pitcher Duncan Howard (Kernersville, N.C.) has been named the Big South Starting Pitcher of the Week for April 25-May 1, as announced by the league office on Monday.
• Howard continued his dominance in 2022 tossing seven shutout innings in a 3-1 win over James Madison on Saturday afternoon. He scattered six hits and allowed a pair of walks with four strikeouts en route to his seventh win of the 2022 season.
• He also added a scoreless inning of relief in midweek action against Western Carolina on Wednesday night that saw the Blue Hose sophomore earn his first save of the season.The Blue Hose Saturday starter hasn't allowed an earned run over his last 15.2 innings of work which goes back over his last four appearances which he has totaled 15 strikeouts in those outings.
 
Dearman Earns Big South Relief Pitcher of the Week Honors
• Following his two scoreless innings of relief on Thursday night, Presbyterian College baseball senior left-handed pitcher Clark Dearman (Milton, Ga.) has been named the Big South Relief Pitcher of the Week for games played April 12-17, as announced by the league office on Monday.
• In his lone appearance, Dearman entered in the eighth inning on Thursday night of the Blue Hose 7-5 win over Longwood. He struck out the side in the eighth before adding a punchout in the ninth en route to the Blue Hose series opening win. He needed just 26 pitches over six batters to record his third save of the 2022 season.
• He is third on the team with 13 appearances as he leads all Blue Hose relievers with a 3.63 ERA and is second on the team with three saves.
• This is the fourth Big South Relief Pitcher of the Week for Presbyterian and third in a row as Logan Ymker won the award the past two weeks. Dearman also picked up an award earlier this season.
 
Ymker Earns Second Straight Relief Pitcher of the Week Award
• Junior Logan Ymker (Sioux Falls, S.D.) has been named the Big South Relief Pitcher of the Week for the second straight week for games played April 4-10, as announced by the league office on Monday.
• Ymker opened the weekend at Morehead State tossing the final two innings of the Blue Hose 11-7 win over the Eagles. He sat down the first five batters he faced on Saturday before a two-out single was his lone blemish. Ymker struck out a season-high five batters to help finish off Saturday's win for the Blue Hose. He pitched in Sunday's series finale at Morehead State recording the final two outs which included his sixth strikeout of the weekend.
• Over his last six appearances, Ymker has allowed two earned runs over 9.2 innings allowing just one walk and totaling 16 strikeouts. The Sioux Falls, S.D. native is limiting batters to .147 opponents batting average as he has recorded a 1.86 earned run average in that stretch.
• Ymker is the first Big South reliever since May of 2019 to win back-to-back weekly awards when Winthrop's Colten Rendon won three straight at the end of the 2019 season.
 
Toth Named Big South Player of the Week
• Following a 7-for-13 week at the plate, Presbyterian College baseball senior Eric Toth (Mobile, Ala.) has been named the Big South Player of the Week for games played Feb. 28-Mar.6, as announced by the league office on Monday.
• He began his week with a 2-for-4 performance in a midweek defeat against Charleston. Toth opened the weekend against Bellarmine with a season-high three hits including a double and run driven in during the Blue Hose 9-3 win over Bellarmine.
• The senior continued his strong week at the plate with his second homer of the season on Saturday in a 5-0 shutout before adding an RBI double and scoring two runs in Presbyterian's 8-4 series finale win over the Knights.
• Over the four-game week, Toth slugged .923 and got on base at a .611 clip as he was able to raise his batting average from .290 up to .364.
 
Blue Hose in the Minors
• Former Blue Hose pitcher Hayden Deal has begun his 2022 with a 1-0 record tossing 20.2 innings over nine appearances allowing just two earned runs with 21 strikeouts for the Mississippi Braves, the AA Affiliate of the defending champion Atlanta Braves.
• As he begins his fifth year in pro baseball in 2022, Deal is 21-15 with a 2.99 ERA as over 337.2 innings pitched he has racked up 301 strikeouts. He also added five saves in his minor league career.
 
Up Next
• The Blue Hose close out the 2022 regular season beginning on Thursday at 6 p.m. with the opening game against High Point. Friday afternoon first pitch is set for 3 p.m. with the series wrap up on Saturday at 1 p.m. in Clinton. All three games will be shown on ESPN+.
