McKenzie Davis and
Valentina De Sousa were recognized by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) for their work in the classroom during the 2022-23 academic year by being named ITA Scholar-Athletes.
ITA SCHOLAR-ATHLETE
Individuals must have had at least a 3.5 GPA for the current academic year to be named ITA Scholar-Athlete. This year, 1,513 Division I women's tennis players were named an ITA Scholar-Athlete.Â
McKenzie Davis
In her first college season, she recorded seven singles wins while playing primarily at the number three or four spots. She collected two singles wins in Big South Conference play. The Florence, South Carolina native recorded seven doubles wins playing with several different partners. This year, Davis had a 4.0 GPA while currently undeclared on her major.
Valentina De Sousa
This is the second consecutive season that De Sousa has earned ITA Scholar-Athlete honors. This year, De Sousa collected Big South All-Academic team and CSC Academic All-District team accolades. De Sousa tallied five singles wins playing at the number four, five, or six spots. She began Big South play with a three-set win at number five singles in Presbyterian's win over Gardner-Webb. She also recorded four doubles wins playing with several different partners. The Caracas, Venezuela native is a business administration major with an economics, marketing, and management concentration and had a 3.66 GPA this past year.
