CLINTON, S.C. – Undefeated through the first full month of the season and one of the emerging stars on the sixth-ranked Presbyterian College women's wrestling team, freshman
Chloe Dearwester has been chosen as the Adidas / Game One PC Student-Athlete of the Week.
Touting an 8-0 individual record that includes two tournament championships and a couple of dual victories, Dearwester has wasted no time getting acclimated to the collegiate stage and is one of three PC wrestlers yet to lose this season.
All of her eight victories have come by either pin or technical fall, the last of which happened in a 35-12 W against Mount Olive where she needed only 87 seconds to earn a 15-0 tech.
On a roster that already features six nationally-ranked athletes and back-to-back top-ten finishes at the National Tournament, Dearwester seems on track to become a Freshman All-American (a feat that three Blue Hose accomplished last spring).
DASHING DEBUT
Dearwester's Presby inauguration came on November 3, pinning two straight opponents at the Princeton Open which took a combined 89 seconds. She'd win the 110-lb. title bout with a 13-3 technical, one of 12 gold medals for the team thus far.
Headlining the "Throwdown on the Yorktown" from a Charleston Battleship just over a month ago, Dearwester made her dual debut in a 10-0 breeze versus Campbellsville that materialized in less than three minutes.
Chloe returned to the brackets at the Blue Hose Challenge from Templeton Gymnasium, handily winning all three of her matches to grab one of a program-record eight championships on the day.
Her 15-0 blowout over Mount Olive's Ria Wright last week improved the rookie to 8-0, as the Cincinnati native joins
Cassia Zammit and
May Cuyler as other unbeatens on PC's lineup.
TANGO WITH THE TORNADO
Perhaps Dearwester's biggest test – and the team's largest challenge of the year to this point – is just 24 hours away, with the Scotsmen hosting #3 King on Tuesday at 6:00 PM.
It'll be a war between two top-ten regional rivals, who boast 17 nationally-ranked wrestlers between them and a combined 13 dual wins already.
ESPN+ will be broadcasting the event, set to be PC's biggest-ever home matchup.
