PC Ragdolls Two Foes at NWCA National Duals, Chance to Finish in Top Five Tomorrow

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – The #7 Presbyterian College women's wrestling squad submitted their name to a 16-team tournament on Friday afternoon that entailed major star power on all fronts, going 2-1 at the NWCA National Duals and beating a couple of top-20 opponents to do it.

PC hammered #17 Wisconsin-Stevens Points early on (35-9) before facing a brief but competitive setback against fifth-ranked McKendree in the next round (24-20). Their third match of the day saw a return to form versus #16 Sacred Heart (32-12), granting the Blue Hose their seventh dual win of the season.

A tough feat considering a standard dual is a mere 10 matches, Presby has now surpassed the 30-point mark in four different duals since December, staying alive in the tournament for its final day tomorrow.

The Scotsmen have guaranteed themselves two more meetings on Saturday, with a fifth-place finish being the best possible outcome. They'll tangle with #11 Wartburg at 11:30 AM eastern time for a shot at that top five standing.

NOTABLES

- Head coach Brian Vutianitis' lineup remains astoundingly deep, with six nationally-ranked grapplers all competing on Friday and putting up fruitful results.

- 110-pounder Chloe Dearwester has all but confirmed a high spot in the next NWCA poll as a freshman, collecting two techincal's and another 3:50 pin which moves her personal record to 18-0.

- Second-year All-American Cassia Zammit has yet to cool off after being selected as NWCA Southeast Region Wrestler of the Month in December, moving to 16-2 personally after assuming 35 victories last winter.

- Carina Giangeruso and May Cuyler stay stride-for-stride with Dearwester in terms of personal records as rookies, advancing to 17-1 and 17-2 respectively as Presbyterian dominated both the Pointers and the Pioneers.

- When calculating the combined records of Cuyler (the 160-lb. champion at the Midlands Championships just before New Year's), Zammit, Giangeruso, and Dearwester, the final tally comes out to: 68-5.
