MONTGOMERY, Ala. – It's been a marvelous 24 hours for the seventh-ranked Presbyterian College women's wrestling program, winning three tough duals on Friday in the Yellowhammer State and following that up with another elite performance at the Red Lady Open on Saturday.

Seven Blue Hose grapplers picked up a first-place trophy in Montgomery, beefing up their season total to 24 gold medals in only five tournament showings to this point.

PC's imprints were all over the brackets this weekend, finishing one shy of tying a program record for most individual championships in one event (they grabbed eight titles at the Blue Hose Challenge back in November at Templeton Gym).

Grace York, Chloe Dearwester, Laura Ruiz Diaz, Cassia Zammit, Maddie Kubicki, Isabella Gretzinger, and Maria Aiono were all first-place winners in the team's second tourney in a six-day window.

Since the campaign started pre-Thanksgiving, a Presbyterian wrestler has been awarded either a gold or silver prize 37 times. That's not to mention a 5-1 record in a dual setting, scoring 87 combined points yesterday as they knocked off Huntingdon, Texas Woman's University, and Lindsey Wilson.


 
NOTABLES
 
- Tournament expertise has been PC's bread and butter this season, winning 46 bouts on Saturday from 17 entrees altogether.

- True freshman Chloe Dearwester continues to write arguably the best opening chapter of any athlete in program history, pinning three straight foes in succession to improve her personal record to a whopping 15-0.

- Three championship matches in Alabama were between two Presby competitors against each other, guaranteeing a strong outcome either way. In those affairs, York bested Annalise Maralit in 103, Zammit outlasted Kassey Daugherty in 131, and Gretzinger was declared the 160-lb. champ in a "No Contest" opposite Morgan Norris.

- Head coach Brian Vutianitis' group was particularly dominant in class 180, where three of the four semifinalists represented the blue and garnet. Henlee Haynes ended up with a silver nod in that sequence while Kascidy Garren toppled Lexi Fornshell in the 3^rd-place matchup.

- Held to just one prior appearance due to preseason injury, 2024 All-American Maddie Kubicki got back to her usual self with three one-sided victories in class 145. The Kansas City product gained her last two wins in sub-sixty-second falls, a fitting sequel to her freshman year record of 32-10.

- Elsewhere, 207-pounder Aiono bulldozed past all four challengers for her second championship as a rookie. On Friday, she was the hero of a 23-21 W against Lindsey Wilson with a 1:40 pin that allowed PC to come out on top in the team score.

- Less than 24 hours later, Aiono defeated that same adversary from the Blue Raiders in another pin, this time taking 13 fewer seconds en route to the gold.
