CLINTON, S.C. – Powered by a career night from
Amman Dewberry and strong performances on the mound, the Presbyterian College baseball team (17-22, Big South: 9-7) rolled past Charleston Southern (22-16, Big South: 8-8) with a 14-2 victory in Friday night's series opener at the PC Baseball Complex.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- PC wasted no time getting on the board. Rhogue Wallace singled in the first, then came around to score on a Dewberry base hit through the right side.
- The Blue Hose broke it open in the second. With two outs, Brody Linker doubled, followed by a walk by Eli Lazio and a hit-by-pitch to Wallace to load the bases. Trey Fenderson drew a walk to bring in a run before Dewberry launched a grand slam over the left-center wall, making it 6-0.
- After a quiet third inning, PC tacked on three more in the fourth. Lazio led off with a single, and following a sac bunt and two walks, Jake Randolph ripped a three-run double to right-center.
- In the fifth, Jackson Hugus singled and Linker walked, setting up Wallace's RBI single to bring in Hugus for a 10-0 lead.
- Charleston Southern scratched across a run in the sixth, but PC answered with a three-run seventh inning highlighted by Linker's second double, a sacrifice fly from Nick Smith, and another Dewberry RBI single. Matthew Rollison capped the inning with a bases-loaded walk to make it 14-1.
- The Buccaneers added one more in the ninth, but the Blue Hose sealed the convincing win.
