The Presbyterian College baseball team won its fifth game in a row with a 13-7 victory over North Carolina Central in action this afternoon at the PC Baseball Complex in Clinton, S.C.
The Blue Hose improved to 9-6 with the win, while the Eagles fell to 1-13 heading into the third and final game of the series, Sunday at 1 p.m.
PC scored three runs in the first inning, starting with Brad Zebedis (Rock Hill, S.C.) who hit a sacrifice fly out to right field and brought home Andrew Williams (Augusta, Ga.). Tony Micklon (Sumter, S.C.) then singled to drive in Mack Hite (Abbeville, S.C.), while Nate Horton (Spartanburg, S.C.) grounded to the shortstop but not before bringing in Gabe Grammer (Irmo, S.C.), to go up 3-0.
The Eagles scored their first run of the game in the top of the fourth but were immediately answered by the Blue Hose, who ran the score up to 8-1 with five runs. John Wagner led off the fourth with a walk as the next two batters went down in order. Grammer then singled up the middle and scored along with Wagner after the Eagles committed two errors in a single play. The next two batters walked with one coming home off a Horton single. The final two runs of the inning came off an Aaron Preston (Goose Creek, S.C.) double.
North Carolina Central plated two runs in the sixth to cut the margin to five, 8-3 before PC scored five more in the bottom of the seventh, off five singles and three walks.
The Eagles made a run in the top of the ninth with four runs, two off a two-RBI double by Troy Marrow, but could get no closer and fell by the final 13-7.
Zebedis led the Blue Hose, going three-for-three with two RBI. Micklon, Horton and Preston all posted two RBI in the game. Akeem Hood led the Eagles with a three-for-five effort with one RBI.
Bud Jeter (Columbia, S.C.) picked up his third win (3-1) of the season as he went 7.0 innings with five strikeouts and nine hits, giving up three runs (three earned).
Jacob Russell took the loss for the Eagles (0-4), going 3.2 innings and giving up four earned runs off six hits.
