Baseball Opens Home Schedule with Four-Game Set

CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College Baseball team opens its home schedule with a four-game weekend set beginning on Friday with a doubleheader against Boston College at 1 p.m. and George Mason at 4:30 p.m… The Blue Hose wrap up the weekend with a back-to-back on Saturday and Sunday with Manhattan at 1 p.m. and 12 p.m. respectively. All four games will be shown on ESPN+.

About the Blue Hose
• The Presbyterian College baseball team was unable to overcome a nine-run seventh inning as the host #19 Georgia Tech picked up a 17-7 victory on Wednesday night at Russ Chandler Stadium. Sophomore Chris Veach led the Blue Hose with three runs knocked in on Wednesday.  
 
Series History
• This weekend's matchups with Boston College and George Mason are the first all-time meetings for the Blue Hose against the Eagles and Patriots.
• PC and Manhattan have faced each other one prior time in the Blue Hose DI era with Presbyterian winning 7-6 in Spartanburg during the 2020 season.

Matthews Slamming the Door
• Senior Luke Matthews tossed six scoreless frames over the weekend earning his first two collegiate victories against the Ospreys.
• Matthews tossed 2.1 scoreless innings in relief on Friday as he earned his first collegiate victory. Matthews totaled a career-high three strikeouts.
• He improved on Friday's performance with a career-high 3.2 scoreless innings scattering three hits in recording his second win of the year.
 
Blue Hose Long Ball
• The Blue Hose have totaled four home runs in the opening four games this season off the bats of three different players.
• Sophomore Jack Gorman and senior Sean Klein each connected on homers on Wednesday afternoon in Atlanta.
•Junior Chase Hughes started the season fast with homers in back-to-back games in Jacksonville last week.

2022 Preseason Honors
• Senior Eric Toth and sophomore Charlie McDaniel were both selected to the Preseason All-Conference team as selected by Perfect game.
• PC was tabbed fourth in the preseason conference poll as voted on by the league coaches.

Scouting Boston College
• Boston College enters the weekend with a 1-2 record after dropping two-of-three to Austin Peay last weekend.
• The Eagles are led offensively by Joe Vetrano with six runs knocked in and a home run thus far. Parker Ladwehr hit .500 with a home run and four runs driven in.
• BC hit .318 last weekend with seven doubles and five home runs as a team.
• Joe Mancini tossed 5.0 innings in his season-debut last week recording the win with three strikeouts. Sean Hard had seven strikeouts in his start last week to lead the Eagles.
 
Scouting George Mason
• George Mason begins the weekend with a 1-3 record after dropping a midweek matchup to James Madison on Wednesday.
• Brett Ahalt and Daniel Brooks are leading the George Mason offense in the early going with both hitting .500 on the year.
• Connor Dykstra has two homers and five runs driven in leading the Patriots.
• South Trimble is a perfect 3-for-3 on the bases so far this year.
• Matthew Henson has tossed 2.2 scoreless innings to lead the George Mason pitching staff. Chad Gartland led the Patriots last week with six strikeouts in his lone appearance recording a save.
 
Scouting Manhattan
• Manhattan opens the weekend with a 1-2 record as the Jaspers face USC Upstate on Friday before the back-to-back matchup with the Blue Hose over the weekend.
• Harrison Treble led the Jaspers offense with a 6-for-10 performance at the dish as David Bermudez went .455 (5-for-11) with three RBIs.
• Ohjiro Motoki is one of three Jasper pitchers last weekend that had a scoreless apperance along with Kyle Lesler and Connor O'Neill.
• Among the Manhattan starters, Jordan Warecke totaled a team-high five strikeouts in his first start of the season.

• Following Sunday's game with the Jaspers, PC continues its season-long nine game home stand on Tuesday as the Blue Hose welcome in College of Charleston at 4 p.m.
