Baseball Heads to Campbell for Conference Road Series

CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College Baseball team hits the road for the first time in Big South play beginning with a three-game series against Campbell at 6 p.m. on Friday. The two teams are slated for a 3 p.m. first pitch on Saturday before the series finale at 2 p.m. on Sunday in Buies Creek. All three games will be shown on ESPN+.

About the Blue Hose
• USC Upstate used a four-run fifth and added a run in the seventh to complete the three-game sweep of the Presbyterian College baseball team on Sunday afternoon at the PC Baseball Complex by the score of 5-4. Sophomore Dalton Reeves connected on his first homer of the season to open the scoring on Sunday afternoon. 
• The Presbyterian College baseball team and USC Upstate battled back and forth for the second straight day but the Spartans used a two-run seventh to secure the series on Saturday by the score of 5-4 at the PC Baseball Complex. In the loss, senior Jeremiah Boyd connected on his second homer of the season.
• The Presbyterian College baseball team opened the 2022 Big South slate on Friday with USC Upstate holding off a late charge from the Blue Hose to pick up the 6-5 victory on Friday afternoon at the PC Baseball Complex.
 
Series History
• Campbell leading the all-time series against PC 20-6 with the Blue Hose winning each of the last three meetings including twice in the Big South tournament to clinch the championship last May.
• Last April was the first time in program history that the Blue Hose took a series from Campbell after winning just two of the prior meetings.
Eric Toth hit .381 (8-for-21) with a pair of big flies last year against Campbell. Brody Fahr hit at a .368 clip (7-for-19) with three doubles.
• In four outings last season,Toth was 1-0 with three saves as he allowed just one earned run in 7.1 innings pitched.
Charlie McDaniel made two starts and was 2-0 with a 1.38 ERA allowing two earned runs over 13 innings pitched.
 
Blue Hose Leaders
Jay Wetherington begins the weekend in Campbell fourth in the league in average at a .377 clip. He's also reaching base at a .466 average whihc is seventh in the league.
Eric Toth is tied for fifth in runs scored with 20 and is tied for sixth with 25 hits to lead the Blue Hose thus far.
Jack Gorman and Dalton Reeves are both tied for eighth in the Big South with a team-high six doubles.
Kyle Decker sits fifth in the league with eight stolen bases on the season.
Duncan Howard's 1.88 ERA has him third in the league behind the pair of starters from Campbell.
 
Last Five Games & 10 Games
Jack Gorman is pacing the Blue Hose in their last five games hitting at a .467 clip (7-of-15) with three doubles and four runs driven in.
Jay Wetherington is hitting .333 (7-of-21) with a double, triple and two stolen bases. Wetherington is hitting .476 (10-of-21) in games away from Clinton this season.
• In his last three starts, Duncan Howard has held opponents to a .191 batting average in 19 innings allowing three earned runs and totaling 21 strikeouts.
 
Scouting Campbell
• Campbell enters the weekend with a 9-11 record following a 12-4 defeat on Tuesday against Charlotte.
• Big South Preseason Player of the Year Zach Neto leads the way offensively with a .348 average including six doubles, two triples and three home runs. Neto has a team-high 13 RBIs and has an on base percentage of .471.
• Bryce Arnold leads the way with four homers. Jarrod Belbin has a team-high seven stolen bases.
• Preseason Pitcher of the Year Thomas Harrington leads the Big South with a 4-1 record to go along with a 1.09 ERA. He has 46 strikeouts to lead the league as well.
• Cade Kuehler sits second in the league with a 1.59 ERA and is fourth in the conference in strikeouts with 34.
• Campbell has tallied a midweek win over #8 N.C. State and #14 Liberty. The Fighting Camels have played nine games against top 100 RPI teams already in 2022.
 
Toth Named Big South Player of the Week
• Following a 7-for-13 week at the plate, Presbyterian College baseball senior Eric Toth (Mobile, Ala.) has been named the Big South Player of the Week for games played Feb. 28-Mar.6, as announced by the league office on Monday.
• He began his week with a 2-for-4 performance in a midweek defeat against Charleston. Toth opened the weekend against Bellarmine with a season-high three hits including a double and run driven in during the Blue Hose 9-3 win over Bellarmine.
• The senior continued his strong week at the plate with his second homer of the season on Saturday in a 5-0 shutout before adding an RBI double and scoring two runs in Presbyterian's 8-4 series finale win over the Knights.
• Over the four-game week, Toth slugged .923 and got on base at a .611 clip as he was able to raise his batting average from .290 up to .364.
 
Dearman Earns Big South Relief Pitcher of the Week Honors
• Following his first collegiate save on Saturday, Presbyterian College baseball senior left-handed pitcher Clark Dearman (Milton, Ga.) has been named the Big South Relief Pitcher of the Week for games played Feb. 21-Feb. 27, as announced by the league office on Monday.
• Dearman began the week with 1.1 scoreless frames in the Blue Hose midweek contest against Georgia Tech. He recorded a pair of strikeouts in the outing against the Yellow Jackets allowing a hit and a walk.
• The Milton, Ga. native returned to the hill on Saturday afternoon and pitched the final two innings of the Blue Hose 5-1 game one victory against Manhattan to earn his first collegiate save.  He recorded three punchouts in the two innings against the Jaspers.
• Dearman leads the team with four appearances as he has allowed two earned runs in 5.1 innings while totaling eight strikeouts this season.
 
Blue Hose Long Ball
• The Blue Hose have totaled 10 home runs in the opening 20 games this season off the bats of seven different players.
Eric Toth, Jeremiah Boyd and Chase Hughes lead the way with two homers apiece on the season.
Dalton Reeves, Jack Gorman, Sean Klein and Ryan Ouzts have each tallied one this year as well.
