CHARLOTTE, N.C. – On Tuesday afternoon, the Big South Conference celebrated a record-setting batch of 2,279 student-athletes to make the league's Presidential Honor Roll. Among them, Presbyterian College was represented with 205 members – an increase of six from the previous summer.
To be permitted on the Big South Presidential Honor Roll, one must maintain at least a 3.0 grade-point average or higher over the entire academic year, a mark that 81 percent of student-athletes around the league met. For the first time ever, all nine Big South institutions cleared at least 70 percent of their student-athlete body on the Presidential Honor Roll.
Those that earned a perfect 4.0 GPA received the Big South Commissioner's Award, a feat that 24 Presbyterian student-athletes hit across 12 different programs.
Altogether, 277 student-athletes in the conference were bestowed the Commissioner's Award, another all-time record.
The PC women's soccer program led the Blue Hose athletic department with 26 players on the Big South Presidential Honor Roll. Nine of those individuals collected a 4.0 GPA, the second-most of any team in any sport around the league.
This is the fifth consecutive year that Presbyterian qualified at least 70 percent of their eligible student-athletes to the Presidential Honor Roll, matching High Point, Radford, and Winthrop for the longest current streak in the Big South.
Six Blue Hose programs saw at least 18 student-athletes on the Presidential Honor Roll, led by women's soccer's 26 and men's soccer's 21. Both PC baseball and women's lacrosse qualified 20 to the list.
The Big South presented "Gold" and "Silver" distinctions for those who secured a GPA of above 3.50. (Gold = 3.75-3.99 & Silver = 3.50-3.74). Counting the 24 from Presbyterian who claimed a 4.0, there are 133 players that boast a 3.5 GPA or higher.
