CLINTON, S.C. – Responsible for a huge momentum-shifter that proved contagious and resulted in a 32-0 flurry as well as a dual victory in the squad's home opener, Rey Ortiz of the Presbyterian College men's wrestling team has been selected as the Adidas / Game One PC Student-Athlete of the Week.

A true freshman that settled into the 133-lb. class and performed a 6:15 pin during Presby's 44-6 decimation of Truett McConnell, Ortiz' victory on Sunday was the first of what turned into six consecutive individual wins for the Blue Hose on their way to dual win # 2.

Hailing from Saint Cloud, Florida, the rookie has steadily become a regular in head coach Mark Cody's lineup, part of a group that emphatically shook off back-to-back defeats only two days earlier against Little Rock and Cleveland State at a neutral site in North Carolina.



His pin (coming over TMU's Frankie Salcedo) brought the Blue Hose five of their 44 points in the commanding W, evening the program's highest point total in a single affair since the team was formed in 2019.

For further emphasis, Presbyterian moved to 4-0 all-time when facing off with the Bears while averaging 38 points per trip in the series. That result was just what the doctor ordered for a crew that had lost its prior six matchups.

PC will now begin their Southern Conference preparation, partaking in the league opener at Bellarmine on Friday at 7:00 PM. The team will compete against all eight opposing members of the SoCon, starting with a foe that has earned a quick reputation as being one of the most well-rounded mid-major squads in America by virtue of a 10-0 resume.

After the visit to Louisville, the Blue Hose will return to Templeton in consecutive days for a short non-conference detour against Queens which will precede hosting duties when Appalachian State comes to Clinton.

The Presbyterian College athletic department partnered with Game One on a multi-year apparel agreement last November as an official team dealer for Adidas. The partnership extended the university's alliance with Adidas which began in 2015 to outfit the Blue Hose athletic programs.
